Position Summary
The Laboratory Assistant - Is responsible for the collection of routine, STAT, and other requested blood samples and their safe delivery to the technical areas for analysis. Performs duties supporting the efficient operation of the laboratory, including specimen processing, patient registration, phlebotomy and performing ECG testing.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
• Acts as a patient advocate and upholds patient rights.
• Assures all patients are correctly identified prior to providing and/or documenting care.
• Documents in a clear and legible manner.
• Recognizes and integrates patient special needs and individualizes care.
• Adapts work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs.
• Assists in central processing by receiving specimens, responding to pneumatic tube and answering telephones, draws blood samples.
• Is responsive, courteous, respectful and cooperative in completing tasks.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
• Completion of a certified phlebotomy training program
• 5 years of Phlebotomy experience in a hospital and/or high outpatient setting
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Intermediate computer skills, excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods with the ability to lift, push and pull
Preferred Skills and Experience
• Sample prep and reference lab experience
