What are the responsibilities and job description for the First Mate/Deckhand position at Shore Thing Tiki Cruises?
Shore Thing Tiki Cruises is hiring a First Mate/Deckhand. We run three boats offering up to five cruises a day, 7 days a week and stay consistently booked. First mate will be responsible for the overall safety of the boat, equipment, crew and all guests on board. Must have social and customer service skills to provide guests with an enjoyable and fun experience. Will be responsible for overall cleanliness of the boat and equipment. Must have an understanding of general boat maintenance. Training provided.
Duties include:
- Maintain a safe and clean environment on board the vessel at all times.
- Follow directions from the captain.
- Greet and interact with guests in a friendly, engaging, and courteous manner.
- Follow standard docking and embarkation procedures.
- Help with anchoring at sandbars.
- Take part in regular safety drills and maritime training.
- Function as part of a well-coordinated team.
Our crew members are hard-working, team-oriented, and dedicated to the safety and enjoyment of our guests. Previous experience working on boats or hospitality related experience is a plus, but not required. Public speaking skills are a must! Ideal candidates are individuals who are out-going, interactive and work well with adults and children. Applicant must join a drug consortium if not already enrolled in one. Pre-employment drug test required.
Pay is $50-$55/1.5 - 2.5 hour cruise; plus 50% tip share with captain.
Shore Thing Tiki Cruises is a great place to work and is the winner of the 2024 Manatee County Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year as well as the 2025 Annan Maria Island Chamber of Commerce Business of the year. Our vessels are 30' and 40' tiki pontoons boats, USGC inspected with passenger capacity of from 6-44 plus 2 crew. We depart from our marina in Cortez daily and pick up customers in Bradenton Beach.
