Live-in staff offer support to students through the implementation of a community-focused and developmental curriculum that educates, encourages, and empowers students to connect with their peers, engage in new experiences and explore different perspectives. Resident Assistants (RAs) provide programmatic and emergency support for students via weekly activities and after-hours emergency crisis response.Reporting to the Dean of Student Support & Success, the Director of Student Leadership & Residential Life provides administrative direction and leadership for the Student Life & Residential Life programs, including development and execution of department vision and goals that contribute to and support the College's mission and values.Primary responsibilities include the following :
- Provide leadership, development, and direction for programming and operations of Student Life & Residential Life programs, including planning of campus events and supporting 50 student organizations.
- Develop and direct the implementation of and monitor goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards, ensuring College mission, applicable regulations and policies are met by Student Life & Residential Life programs.
- Lead collaborative efforts in the development of a student-focused residential community and implementing operational procedures including training and indirectly supervising student (resident assistant) staff, implementing safety protocols, and coordinating social and educational engagement opportunities.
- Provide administrative oversight, support, training, and guidance to the Associated Student Government (ASG) and its leadership for their responsibilities related to programming, advocacy, allocation, and budgeting of student fee funds, and other projects.
- Serve in an administrator on-call rotation to provide emergency crisis support for residents and live-in student staff and full-time staff.
- Provide support for students in crisis including participation in College Care Team (student support and behavioral intervention).
- Prepare, allocate and administer budgets, including determination of staffing and operational requirements; approve and monitor expenditures including all fee funds associated with Associated Student Government (ASG), including Services & Activities (S&A), Student Technology Fee, and Sustainability & Commuter Options Fee (SCOF). Collaborate with ASG and College leadership on stewardship of student fees.
- Lead area in continuous improvement practice, including annual completion of area reviews, goal setting, activities, and evaluation. Conduct assessment, including regular review and evaluation of programs to ensure maximum service delivery and achievement of learning and program service outcomes.
- Supervise staff; recruit, train, coach, and ensure performance objectives are met, building an effective team that is responsive to the needs of students and the College, supporting its equity focused strategic plan.
- Implement and oversee leadership opportunities via one-time and ongoing workshops and training for student staff, student club leaders, and general students.
- Develop collaborative student leadership development and student programming with key areas, including the Multicultural Center, Gender Equity Center, API Student Center, and Career Center.
- Provide administrative oversight, planning, and guidance for Student Life and campus events, including Welcome Week(s), and Commencement; assist with new student orientation related activities. Envision, collaborate, plan, and implement student and resident retention and success initiatives.
- Prepare or direct the preparation of a variety of written reports and materials; direct the maintenance and retention of working and official departmental files.
- Serve on leadership team for the Division of Student Services and on committees as appropriate to ensure student needs and concerns are represented.
- Administer and interpret College policies and procedures; resolve issues, resulting in mutual respect and tolerance for varying points of view. Assist with Residential Life and Student Conduct Code case management / appeals.
- Manage the applicable provisions of the negotiated collective bargaining agreements within functional areas of responsibility.
- Represent Student Life within the College, in the community, in professional organizations, with school districts and other agencies. Serves as a campus representative to the statewide Council of Unions and Student Programs (CUSP) for the community and technical colleges.
- Participate in professional development to keep current in student affairs, residential life, and leadership programming; implement new ideas / promising practices as appropriate.
- Keep current with laws, ethical codes, regulations, and technology that may affect departmental operations; implement policy and procedural changes as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned (of a similar nature or level).QualificationsRequired Education & Experience :
- Master's degree related to student affairs OR Bachelor's degree related to student affairs with two (2) years of experience in student services OR equivalent education / experience
- Three (3) years of managerial or leadership experience within higher education
- Experience serving diverse students such as historically underrepresented minorities, first generation, low-income, students with disabilities, veterans, and international studentsLicenses
- Valid unrestricted Washington State driver's license
- Clean driving record (max of 1 moving violation in the last 12 months, no suspension / revocation of license for misdemeanor in the last 5 years)Knowledge Of :
- Microsoft Office Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word applications; electronic record management systems
- Principles and operational practices applicable to student development, leadership, equity, inclusion, social justice, and multicultural understanding
- Best practices, operational requirements, and social / educational programming related to residential life

Administrators are assigned to work on campus, noting there may be some opportunities to work remotely based on program or area needs. If authorized for limited remote work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. When working on-campus, this position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus, using the ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means.
