The Community Employment Program (CEP) is a specially funded program within Student Support Programs at Shoreline Community College. CEP helps adults with various disabilities prepare for employment or participate in community activities of their choosing. CEP believes all individuals regardless of ability have the right to choose their own unique path to employment and lead self-determined lives. Our students are referred to as participants.
CEP has two different contracts through King County Development Disabilities Divisions;
1. Individual Employee contract: CEP supports our participants in the preparation of obtaining employment and supporting them to maintain their job out in the community. The job coach works 1:1 with the participant on their individual needs to develop and gain employment-ready skills.
2. Community Inclusion contract: CEP supports our participants with their individual goals for engaging out in their community. The Job coach works 1:1 with the participant to figure out what this will mean and uses their individual “Community Inclusion Plan” as guide.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Support participants in job exploration, interview skills, and/or informational interviews resume building, finding an industry of interest.
- Provide employment support and guidance that is based on the participants Annual Employment Goals.
- Provide support for participants in paid employment on campus and/or neighboring communities.
- Support participants in community engagement by using their Community Inclusion goals.
- Provide support in volunteer sites on campus and/or neighboring communities for work trial experience.
- Documenting case notes when working on behalf of the participants.
- Willingness to travel to job sites or community outings by privately owned car or public transportation. Mileage will be reimbursed for all of these options.
- Other office duties as assigned by the Program Manager and Program Coordinator.
- High school graduate or equivalent
- At least 18 years of age
SKILL IN/KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Microsoft Office applications and general office technology/equipment
- Contributing to equity and inclusion by fostering a climate of multicultural awareness and appreciation
- Interacting professionally with a diverse group of students, family members, staff, and instructors
- Problem-solving, with appropriate decision-making processes within College/legal and policy guidelines
- Working independently and as a member of a team
- Working calmly under pressure and/or when supporting frustrated individuals
- Effectively communicating in English both orally and in writing
- Helpful and proactive office and/or customer service work
- Ability to escort/walk participants across campus
- Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to stoop, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Ability to communicate with a variety of different people in different ways
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:
These positions may work full or part-time on an on-call basis, for periods of one (1) week to six (6) months, to fill in for permanent staff absences. As an hourly on-call position, there is no predictability or guarantee of the number of hours/days that may be scheduled. Hourly employees maintain an “at-will” employment relationship meaning that either you or the College may terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any reason. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
If your hours total more than 350 hours in any 12-month period, your position will be represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees Union.
Position is limited to 1 year or 1,050 hours, whichever comes first. Per State of Washington rules, you may reach these limits only once at Shoreline CC. If you have held another part time hourly position at Shoreline Community College since July 1, 2022, additional time and hours limits will apply, so you may not be eligible for hire in this position.
