What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Faculty Pool - Basic Skills ABE/GED/HS+ (F) position at Shoreline Community College?

Salary:
$16,218 - $20,575 / quarter base depending on experience & education
(Per quarter salary calculation: Base multiplied by class load %, ex.: $20,575 base * 50% teaching load = approx. $10,287.50)
Faculty provide instruction in reading and writing contextualized with respect to high school credit competencies (US history, health, fine arts, WA state history, life science, and contemporary issues) or pre-college math, from whole numbers through linear functions. The ABE department aims to support part-time faculty. Part-time faculty have access to the ABE department’s Open Educational Resources (OER) curriculum and instructional resources. In addition, part-time faculty will be support by full-time faculty, the department chair (FPC), and ABE navigator. Part-time faculty are invited to attend all department meetings and trainings but not required to attend these meetings. Opportunities may be available for day-time instruction, evening instruction, hybrid instruction, and online instruction.Required Education & Experience:
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
The College is currently in mixed (both in-person and online instruction) operations, with the option for some assignments to completed in a fully online environment based on program or area needs. For remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.
Terms of Employment/Salary:
This is a part-time, non-tenured, quarter-to-quarter assignment. Salary is dependent upon the number of contact hours for this assignment as provided in the agreement with the Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.

- Master’s degree in Adult Education, English, Composition, Literacy, Math, Math Education, or related field.
- Experience providing instruction in pre-college reading and writing skills and/or pre-college math skills
- Experience working with historically underserved or educationally disadvantaged populations
- Experience (or willingness to gain experience) with teaching and developing coursework online
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of ABE
- Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
- Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
- Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
- Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
- Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
- Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems and other appropriate instructional technology
