The Student Success Technology Specialist contributes to the mission of Shoreline Community College by administering and supporting the college’s student success technologies, including the suite of advising, degree planning, case management, and early alert tools provided by the Starfish (EAB) platform and program mapping tools. Under the general supervision of the Director of Guided Pathways and Title III – SIP, the Specialist is responsible for assisting in the ongoing operations, maintenance, administration, end-user support, and use of these tools by the college’s students, faculty, and staff. The SST Specialist will work closely with and may receive day-to-day task direction from the Starfish Business Analyst in collaboration with the Director of Guided Pathways. The Specialist also contributes to training and orientations, cultivates and shares expertise in technology-assisted student success practices, and collaborates across the college to ensure the effective use of available tools.
Primary responsibilities include the following:
- Administer and manage the daily operations of Shoreline’s student success technology platforms including routine support and troubleshooting for students, faculty, and staff; management of user roles and privileges; platform configuration and workflow customization; system status monitoring; and data reporting.
- Support initial student success platform implementation efforts, and subsequent system upgrades, by participating on appropriate planning and implementation teams or committees as needed.
- Collaborate with the Starfish Business Analyst and Assistant Registrar to ensure cross-platform accuracy between curriculum content and degree plans.
- Work closely with Shoreline specialists in other areas to test and support platform integration with the college’s other related campus systems and to provide cross-functional support and training.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all platform configurations and customizations, as well as for Shoreline-specific protocols governing use and access.
- Serve as a local subject matter expert on student success technology capabilities and current best practices for their use by students, faculty, and staff. Maintain a high degree of knowledge about emerging student support technologies and effective strategies to support their adoption.
- Develop and conduct interactive in-person and/or online training for students, faculty, and staff on the use of student success software relevant to their position and needs.
- Assists the Director of Guided Pathways / Title III – SIP and the Starfish Business Analyst to support relevant professional development programs and initiatives.?
- Participates in professional development activities related to educational and student success technologies and equity initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned of a similar level/nature
NOTE: This position is currently funded through September 30, 2026, with continuation anticipated pending approved grant funding.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing direct customer service or support in a higher education environment; OR or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Knowledge Of:
- Microsoft Office Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word; Zoom and other online office applications (e.g. Google Apps)
- Administration of Starfish or other similar student support and early alert platforms
- Canvas or other learning management systems
- Advising practices, student support services, and academic programs in a community college setting
Skill In:

- Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication, both in person and online
- Learning new software, researching, and attaining expertise in educational software applications, and identifying and independently resolving common technology problems

Conditions of Employment
Physical Work Environment:
The College is currently providing services in a mixed modality of operations (both online and in-person services are offered). This position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus. Please note, there may be limited opportunities for online work depending on program or area needs. If authorized for online work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs.
Terms Of Employment/Salary:
This position is allocated to pay range 53, under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week, with a schedule dependent upon department needs. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.
