Medical Assistant
Position Title: Medical Assistant

Reports To: Office Manager / Medical Provider
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing both clinical and administrative support within Shoreline. This includes patient check-in, obtaining vital signs, conducting point-of-care testing, answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and coordinating medication deliveries with pharmacies. The Medical Assistant ensures that all duties are performed in compliance with office policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assist with patient check-in, verifying and updating necessary information.
- Obtain and record patient vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, pulse oximetry, respiratory rate and weight.
- Perform point-of-care testing, including urine drug screens and urine HCG testing, following established protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of clinical areas, ensuring adherence to infection control procedures.
- Properly document all patient interactions and test results in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Answer and manage incoming phone calls, directing inquiries appropriately.
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments, ensuring efficient clinic flow.
- Coordinate with pharmacies to facilitate medication deliveries and resolve any related issues.
- Maintain accurate patient records in compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality regulations.
- Monitor and manage medical and office supply inventory, reporting needs to the appropriate personnel.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred but not required with relevant experience.
- Experience in a medical office or addiction treatment setting preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and maintain professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer proficiency, including EMR systems and office software.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Work is performed in a clinical office setting.
- Frequent standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of supplies or equipment up to 25 pounds.
Compliance and Confidentiality
The Medical Assistant must adhere to all office policies, HIPAA regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local laws regarding patient care and confidentiality.
Performance Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated based on adherence to job responsibilities, accuracy and efficiency in clinical and administrative tasks, compliance with policies and regulations, and overall contribution to the effectiveness of the office.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 per week
