What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental/Surgical Assistant position at Shoreline Oral & Facial Surgery?
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Dental Assistant to join our team. As a Dental Assistant, you will prepare for and perform complex clinical duties following established procedures in the operatory and consult rooms. All Dental assistants must strive to present themselves as professionals while carrying out their duties and responsibilities. Through teamwork, dental assistants keep the office flow moving in a smooth and efficient manner, while maintaining a positive, respectful, and caring attitude toward patients, doctors, and co-workers.
Duties:
-Prepare operatories, consult rooms and trays for all procedures, according to the preferences of the Doctor you are assigned to
-Greet and seat patients
-Verify and document patients’ medical and dental information
-Take digital x-rays and or Panorex images and follow protocol for attaching to patient record in DSN
-Complete the consent form with the treatment plan discussed with the doctor and patient
-Must follow anesthesia and discharge protocols
-Assist Doctor with oral surgery procedures
-Obtain TRIOS scans to fabricate surgical guides
-Review post-operative instructions with patient and/or patient’s escort
-Discharge patients
-Scrub, sterilize and package instruments
-Telephone patients post-operatively, record and report findings to doctors as well as returning calls to patients who have clinical questions
-For post-operative patients, remove sutures and irrigate surgical sites as directed by Doctor
-Obtain impressions and pour alginate models if needed
-Know & be able to implement emergency management protocols
-Daily turn on/off all equipment, including nitrous oxide tanks, compressor, operatory equipment and computers
-Properly operate and maintain operatory equipment and instruments
-Maintain patient confidentiality/ HIPAA Guidelines
Qualifications:
-H.S. diploma or equivalent
-Certified Dental Assistant, DA I or DA II from accelerated learning program required
-1-2 years of experience as a dental assistant preferred
-Familiar with anatomy and medical and dental terminology as they pertain to oral surgery
-Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
-Radiation Safety certification
-Compassionate, efficient, responsible, level-headed, team player, good communication skills, dependable, and receptive to new ideas

- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
