Position Overview:
The Cubbie Hole Preschool Teacher provides high-quality early childhood education while supporting high school students enrolled in Early Childhood Education courses. This preschool functions as a hands-on learning lab for students pursuing careers in early childhood education. The Cubbie Hole Teacher collaborates with the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Instructor to develop and implement curriculum, instructional strategies, and best practices that support both preschool-aged children and high school student learners.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction and Classroom Management:
- Plan and implement age-appropriate learning activities for preschool students.
- Provide supervision and mentorship to high school students assisting in the preschool.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment.
- Support high school students in developing instructional skills with preschoolers.
- Assist in tracking and assessing student progress, providing feedback and guidance.
- Maintain discipline and classroom management strategies in alignment with school policies.
Administrative and Program Support:
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding preschool programming, student progress, and upcoming events.
- Maintain classroom materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Assist in scheduling and coordinating preschool activities.
- Ensure compliance with Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) licensure requirements and school policies.
- Keep accurate records of student attendance, lesson plans, and program documentation.
Collaboration and Professional Development:
- Work closely with the Early Childhood Education teacher to align curriculum and instructional strategies.
- Participate in school activities and district professional development opportunities as appropriate.
- Support and assist in the recruitment and retention of preschool students.
- Provide input on program development and improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education & Certifications:
- Must hold or be eligible for a state-issued teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a closely related field.
- Must meet one of the following criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
- CTE Early Childhood certification
Experience:
- Minimum of six months of experience in a licensed early childhood setting or similar educational environment.
- Experience working with high school students in an instructional or mentoring capacity is preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong understanding of early childhood development and best practices.
- Ability to manage and supervise both preschool children and high school student assistants.
- Effective communication skills with students, staff, and parents.
- Organizational skills to maintain lesson plans, records, and compliance documentation.
- Proficiency in basic technology tools, such as email, classroom management software, and digital learning platforms.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and engage in activities that involve bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Capable of working in an active preschool environment with young children.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a preschool classroom within a high school setting.
- May require occasional evening events or professional development sessions.
