Position Title: Maintenance Technician

Position Overview:
The Maintenance Technician is a skilled professional responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overall upkeep of all school district buildings, facilities, and grounds. This position requires expertise in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, as well as the ability to troubleshoot issues, perform preventative maintenance, lead small projects, and respond to emergency repair needs. The ideal candidate will ensure a safe, functional, and efficient environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
Facility Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Conduct inspections and address issues related to building infrastructure, including lighting, wiring, and plumbing.
- Complete carpentry, drywall repair, painting, and furniture maintenance as needed.
- Maintain and repair school-specific equipment including kitchen appliances, gym equipment, and playground structures.
Advanced Troubleshooting & Technical Work
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues with boilers, electrical panels, and building automation systems (BAS).
- Calibrate, test, and maintain fire suppression, alarm, and security systems.
- Support basic IT infrastructure, including PA and camera systems, as needed.
Preventative Maintenance & Emergency Response
- Implement and document routine inspections and preventative maintenance to extend system life.
- Serve as an emergency responder for facility issues, including on-call availability after hours.
- Address urgent issues such as leaks, power outages, or equipment failures promptly.
Project Support & Leadership
- Assist in coordinating maintenance projects, facility upgrades, and contractor oversight.
- Support special events with facility setup and teardown.
- Mentor less experienced staff, providing guidance on procedures and safety.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with local, state, and federal codes, including OSHA, ADA, and fire codes.
- Participate in safety inspections and take corrective actions as needed.
- Contribute to emergency preparedness plans and ensure the readiness of systems.
Work Order & Inventory Management
- Use computerized maintenance systems (CMMS) to manage and prioritize work orders.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks, inspections, and part replacements.
- Manage tools, supplies, and inventory to support efficient operations.
Qualifications:
Education & Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical training or certification in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related field preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- EPA 608 Refrigerant Certification and OSHA 10/30-hour certifications are a plus.
Experience:
- 3–5 years of experience in facilities maintenance, with demonstrated skills in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
- Experience in school, hospital, or commercial settings strongly preferred.
- Leadership or project coordination experience is a plus.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
- Knowledge of BAS, EMS, and safety systems.
- Effective communication and collaboration with team members and school personnel.
- Proficient in the use of maintenance tools, equipment, and software.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
- Capable of prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and use of hand tools and equipment.
Working Conditions:
- Work occurs in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to noise, chemicals, and electrical hazards.
- Early morning, evening, weekend shifts, or emergency callouts may be required, depending on district needs.
