POSITION: Middle Level Curriculum Coordinator for Social Studies
2025-2026
Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a full-time Curriculum Coordinator, Social Studies, Grades 5-8. The Curriculum Coordinator is responsible for the Social Studies instructional program at the middle school level, which encompasses one Grade 5-6 (Sherwood) school and one Grade 7-8 (Oak) school.
The focus of the position is curriculum development and implementation, professional development, and program assessment. In addition, the Curriculum Coordinator functions as a primary (50%) or secondary (50%) evaluator for the members of their team.
This position is part of the Unit A schedule and receives a stipend in addition to their placement on the salary scale. It reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, with one of the middle school principals as a secondary evaluator.
Responsibilities:
· Works within the assigned budget, ordering textbooks, supplies and equipment
· Works with teachers on a daily basis in the classroom
· Coordinates with the Assistant Superintendent for the coordination of subject matter in assigned grades and content areas and in collaboration with the elementary and high school curriculums.
· Teaches model lessons for middle school teachers
· Teaches students directly, within a range of time determined by the contract
· Prepares and presents professional development for social studies teachers
· Participates on interview teams at the middle level
· Plans middle school program development and maintains appropriate curriculum guides
· Convenes regular meetings with teachers for curriculum planning and evaluation
· Identifies, secures, and maintains inventory records for appropriate curriculum material for both teachers and students
· Support and promotes the annual goals of the district
· Participates on curriculum evaluation teams
· Maintains connections to professional organizations in assigned subject areas

Preferred:
· Licensure to cover the teaching of History or Social Studies, Grades 5-8 (required)
· Director’s license to cover the evaluation of teachers of History or Social Studies, Grades 5-8 (preferred)
· Course work in curriculum development and educational administration is desirable.
· Works flexibly in a changing environment
· Understands the needs and behaviors of middle school students
· Demonstrates the values of Shrewsbury Public Schools
