Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Director of School Nursing for our district, to begin with the 2025-2026 school year. This position will encompass director responsibilities and direct care nursing services as needed. This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services.

Essential functions and responsibilities:
•School Nurse supervision and evaluation, as well as leading school nurse and substitute school nurse and office staff selection committees for recommendation for hire to the Superintendent of Schools
•Coordinate professional development activities for the nurses in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services and the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
•Coordinate agenda for monthly meetings of nurses, including relevant information on trends, regulations, and disease control
•Coordinate and schedule Staff voluntary immunization clinics (flu, COVID-19, etc.) for all schools
•Serve as district liaison to the school physician in coordinating service and consultations with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Central Massachusetts Regional Public Health Alliance and the professional school nurse associations
•Manages the Comprehensive School Health Services grant through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health School Health Unit (e.g. participates as a member of the “BRYT” program supervision team, manages grant specific budget, attends nurse leader meetings as required by the grant)
•Serve as a member of the School Wellness Advisory Committee (SWAC)
•Member of the District Leadership Team
•Provides a link between school nurses, administration, and other school support personnel
•Supports orientation of all new school nurses, including substitute nurses
•Manages the day-to-day staffing of health offices, secures sub nurse coverage when possible or covers health offices personally
•Coordinates nursing coverage for district summer programming
•Coordinates the services of the department-based administrative assistant
•Collaboratively develops and implements written administrative policies and protocols to address student health issues and enhance program development. Reviews and revises policies to make program adjustments as needed
•Coordinates the collection of statistical data to meet district and grant reporting requirements.
•Responsible for the ongoing use of an electronic health record system in collaboration with IT support personnel and oversees the collection of data which allows for tracking trends, activities and outcomes
•Coordinates ordering medical supplies for the district health offices
•Consults and collaborates with parents, teachers, district administrators, the district physician, and primary care providers, health insurers, and/or community health or social services agencies to address student health problems and plan health services
•Implements communicable disease prevention and infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautions, prevention of bloodborne pathogen exposure and hazardous medical waste disposal
•Participates in school and community wide emergency preparedness response planning.
•Facilitates and oversees 504 plans for students with allergies and medical treatments
•Collaborates with administrators, directors, and nurses to implement the home/hospital tutoring program
•Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
●5 years or more of school nursing experience
●Appropriate licensure for a school nurse through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
●Demonstrated leadership skills
●Ability to work collaboratively across the entire district
●Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
●Ability to handle multiple areas of responsibility in a fast-paced environment

●Director/Supervisor (non-core) through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
Work Year/Compensation:
The Director of School Nursing’s work year is based on the school year calendar (typically 184 days), plus ten days. Salary will be based on the step system, commensurate with qualifications, experience, and education. As a director, the successful candidate will receive a stipend, which is currently under negotiation with the Shrewsbury Education Association, and will be based on years of experience. As of the publication of this posting the range for this position $65,126-$110,934, and the stipend ranges from $8,546-$13,150.
Search Process and Timeline:
The selection process will include initial resume and application packet screening. Semi-finalists will interview with a team of teachers, parents, and administrators. Finalists will be invited to spend a day in the district, visiting classrooms and meetings with principals, students, parents, staff, and central office administrators.
