At Shriners Children's St. Louis, we have a team of physicians and specialists who are highly trained and experienced in pediatric orthopedics. This team is equipped to treat children with a variety of different orthopedic conditions ranging from mild to complex. Other specialties you will find at our facility include limb lengthening and reconstruction, spine care, muscular and neuromuscular care, orthotics and prosthetics and plastic surgery.

Job Overview

The Associate Director of Philanthropy is responsible for identifying and cultivating prospective donors in the community, soliciting donations, and nurturing donor relationships through regular contact, communication, and recognition. For fundraising, this position also develops and maintains relationships with location-affiliated Shrine Centers, businesses, and the local community. This position reports to the Senior Director of Philanthropy.

 

This position requires a willingness and ability to travel and work evenings and weekends when necessary. 

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a knowledge of and ability to build relationships with and obtain gifts from corporations, foundations, and individuals.
  • Assists in developing, building, and maintaining a comprehensive hospital and clinic-based philanthropy program focused on major gifts, planned gifts, annual giving, and corporate and foundation giving.
  • Implements long and short-range operational plans developed by the senior director to strengthen and grow major gifts and planned giving programs.
  • Possesses a basic knowledge of ways to make planned gifts, including bequests, Charitable Gift Annuities (CGAs), and gifts of stock, real property, etc.
  • Assists in developing solicitation priorities and donor/prospect visitation schedules for the top-level staff and volunteer board members.
  • Demonstrates a solid performance record for closing major gifts at levels of five figures and higher.
  • Identifies, cultivates, and stewards prospect relationships through personal visits and written and oral communication to obtain fundraising gifts to support Shriners Children’s (SC).
  • Plans and implements “moves management” strategies for identification, cultivation, timely solicitation, and stewardship of prospects to increase their level of support.
  • Identifies and researches new and prospective donors.
  • Collaborates with Senior Director of Philanthropy, and Director of Philanthropy, if applicable, in major donor cultivation and special events.
  • Supports events such as Walks for Love, fundraising galas, telethons, and other location-specific events using Classy Live.
  • Support headquarters lead digital and direct mail campaigns to ensure the location properly leverages these opportunities.
  • Works closely with leadership in responding to strategic hospital and corporate institutional priorities by meeting annual donor activity and philanthropic revenue goals.
  • Mentors, and trains hospital/clinic-based staff including stewardship coordinators, philanthropy assistants, or other roles within the location’s philanthropy team.
  • Responsible for providing the required reports promptly to the senior director.
  • Ensures records of all donor-related activities and gifts are recorded accurately and timely in SC’s Blackbaud CRM database.
  • Acts as the primary contact for in-kind gifts in collaboration with other hospital/clinic departments including child life, human resources, facilities, etc.
  • Supports the gift acknowledgment and donor recognition procedures for donations and gifts-in-kind through Blackbaud CRM while helping to maintain data integrity in the database.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Director, develops and maintains cooperative relationships with affiliated Shriners temples, Boards of Governors, and third-party donors for fundraising support.
  • Initiates, develops, and maintains cooperative relationships with hospital/clinic philanthropy committees and within the local community to raise philanthropic monies.
  • Develop outreach activities aimed at increasing the number of donor prospects at all giving levels including the development of location newsletters.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • 3 years of progressive fundraising experience, including experience with sponsorship gifts for events and building strong relationships with individual high-capacity donors. A track record of successful fundraising or similar accomplishments is essential.
  • 2 years of experience with plnned giving programs
  • Track record of fundraising accomplishments
  • High proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred:

  • Experience with Blackbaud CRM donor database and prospect research applications
  • 1 yr of  healthcare fundraising experience
