Do you love history, storytelling and the civilian experience at Gettysburg? The Shriver House Museum is looking for an enthusiastic tour guide with excellent communication skills to tell the story of the Battle of Gettysburg from the civilians' point of view.
Job Overview
It was 28 years ago when the huge task of restoring an abandoned house on Baltimore Street in Gettysburg to tell the story of the battle from the civilians’ perspective first began. During the award-winning restoration, the extraordinary story of the young family who lived in the house during the battle was uncovered. Today the Shrivers’ elegant home is used as a backdrop to tell the other side of the Battle of Gettysburg, from the civilians’ point of view – through the eyes of George and Hettie Shriver and their two daughters Sadie (7) and Mollie (5).
Duties
- Conduct guided tours of the Shrivers' home, providing insightful information and engaging narratives to visitors.
- Educate guests about the Battle of Gettysburg from the civilian's point of view.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of all participants throughout the tour.
- Manage time effectively to adhere to scheduled tour durations while allowing for questions and interactions.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with guests, addressing their inquiries and providing exceptional customer service.
- Enthusiastically engage groups of varying sizes, ensuring an enjoyable experience for all participants.
Requirements
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage groups of students and/or seniors effectively.
- Excellent time management skills to ensure tours run smoothly and on schedule.
- Enthusiastic storytelling skills.
- A passion for educating others and sharing knowledge about the Shriver family.
- Ability to adapt your presentation style based on audience engagement levels and interests.

Pay: $12.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 4 – 20 per week
