SUMMARY
The Accounting Manager leads the monthly accounting close, ensuring balance sheet account reconciliations are completed accurately and timely. This position serves as the primary contact for auditing the Society of Human Resource Management and its subsidiaries. In accordance with GAAP and internal reporting practices, applies accounting principles to produce accurate and timely financial statements as required by the Board, Management, and others.

The hiring range for this position is $98,000 to $129,000 per year. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SUMMARY

Responsibilities:
- Facilitates the monthly financial close process to produce timely and accurate financial statements, supporting schedules, and presentations.
- Ensures accounting requirements are implemented and Board and Management reporting needs are met.
- Manages and oversees the monthly account reconciliation process; ensures all reconciliations are completed on time, providing staff feedback to improve the reconciliation.
- Utilize accounting reconciliation software to ensure completeness of the monthly reconciliation process, and evidence of review is documented within the software.
- Ensure all reconciling items are investigated each month.
- Reviews and posts journal entries prepared by accounting staff and ensures proper accompanying documentation is attached.
- Prepares schedules supporting SHRM's external consolidated financial audit and helps ensure auditors understand SHRM operations.
- Coordinates and assists the Accounting Department with special projects as assigned. These projects may include but are not limited to Board reporting, externally and internally requested financial analysis, etc.
- Interact with external auditors during the annual financial statement audit and on an ongoing interim basis when necessary to provide support and explanations for various financial statement disclosures and other technical areas of responsibility.
- Prepare and complete special projects and analysis, including development and implementation of consolidated Accounting Operations department policies and procedures.
- Train and mentor staff to ensure continuous professional development and result oriented mindset.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related areas required with a CPA preferred.
- Minimum of eight (8) plus years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with a not-for-profit organization (a multi-structured organization requiring consolidations accounting) or a public accounting firm.
- Must have an understanding of all elements of financial operations and their impact on the general ledger.
- Must have strong knowledge of 501c6 nonprofit organizations with domestic and international operations.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), accounting terminology, accounting procedures
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external customers to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results.
- Expert Microsoft (MS) Excel skills and comprehensive knowledge of MS Word and MS PowerPoint.
- Comprehensive knowledge of NetSuite ERP system preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate and present financial information verbally and in writing.
- Self-disciplined and capable of completing job duties in a timely manner and with a high level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
- Excellent problem solving and good decision-making skills.
- Complete tasks within critical deadlines.
