Shur-Co is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to join its Accounting Department in the Yankton area, supporting key financial operations.
Summary
The Accounting Supervisor will lead a team of four accounting professionals while overseeing key financial processes, including the management of the company's CAPEX and fixed asset system. This role balances hands-on accounting responsibilities with team leadership, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, process efficiency, and financial reporting accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership and Supervision:
- Supervise, mentor, and support a team of four accounting staff members, fostering a culture of accountability, efficiency, and professional growth.
- Delegate tasks effectively and ensure deadlines are met for all accounting processes.
- CAPEX and Fixed Asset Management:
- Oversee the CAPEX approval process, ensuring alignment with budgets and company policies.
- Maintain the fixed asset system, including asset tracking, depreciation calculations, and reconciliations.
- Conduct periodic reviews of capital expenditures and ensure proper classification and reporting.
- Financial Accounting and Reporting:
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
- Generate and analyze financial reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies, audit findings, and issues of non-compliance.
- Audit and Compliance:
- Support internal and external audit activities, ensuring compliance with financial and regulatory standards.
- Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard financial integrity.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve internal controls.
- Drive process enhancements by leading system implementations, integrations, and financial due diligence.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of financial processes with operational goals.
- Other Duties:
- Assist the Controller with strategic initiatives and provide support as needed.
- Foster a collaborative environment across the accounting and finance teams.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CMA preferred but not required.
- 4–7 years of relevant accounting experience, including at least 2 years managing a team
- Experience working in a manufacturing company is preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting software.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work collaboratively in a team environment.
