Job Title: Production & Install Worker

Summary
Operate sewing machine to join, gather, hem, reinforce, or decorate articles. Lay out, fit and heat weld fabric pieces together. Manually measure and cut fabric on the floor. Visually examine and/or feel surface of vinyl or products to detect defects, such as mismatched color, size, squareness and cosmetic looks, accuracy of tarp products. Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepare items for shipment. Process orders for material or merchandise received by mail, telephone or personally from a customer or company employee. Package materials and product manually. Perform duties required for installations of product on trucks and trailers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Place spool of thread on spindle of machine and draw thread through machine guides, tensions, and eye of needle.
- Insert bobbin into shuttle and draw thread through slot in shuttle wall, or draw thread through guide and looper eye.
- Press knee lever, depress pedal, or move hand lever to raise presser foot or spread feed cups.
- Position parts to be joined under presser foot and needle and lowers presser foot.
- Start, stop, and control speed of machine with pedal or knee lever, also guide parts under needle following edges, seams, guides on machine bed or markings on part.
- Observe stitching to detect defects and notify supervisor or sewing machine repairer when defects are caused by machine malfunction.
- Select sewing supplies such as binding, braid, cord, piping, tape, thread, welt, velcro or rope, according to specifications or color of material, also cut excess thread or material and oil machine properly.
- Responsible for heat welding tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Responsible for the equipment care and proper machine settings to optimize the heat welding characteristics.
- Completion of daily record which documents completed work tasks.
- Responsible for gathering parts and components for required assemblies as assigned by supervisor.
- Line fabric on floor according to length specified.
- On the floor manually trim or cut the material to specifications.
- Stack lengths of material on table or reef in and load it on carts.
- Verify dimensions of product to specifications per print and record quantity of material approved and rejected on inspection record.
- Compare identifying information and count, weigh or measure items of incoming and outgoing shipment to verify information against bill of lading, invoices, orders and/or other records.
- May determine method of shipment and assist in loading operations.
- Prepare bills of lading, affixed shipping labels or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons.
- Assemble and select containers, bind containers with tape and examine outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
- Operate forklift to move, convey or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platforms to storage or work area.
- Inspect and package materials and product for shipment.
- Read production schedule, customer order, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered or distributed.
- Assemble customer orders from stock and place orders on pallets or shelves, or convey orders to packing station or shipping department.
- Perform duties required for installation of products on trucks and trailers.
- Be knowledgeable of all Shur-Co, LLC product and process orders received via phone, mail or fax from customers.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills

- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must have current driver's license and pass a forklift certification test and drive a forklift.
