As an Associate Staff Engineer, Application Systems Development, you'll design, develop, and test platform independent (Windows, OS X, Linux) GUI applications software and integrate it with wired and wireless communication protocol stacks and embedded firmware systems in professional audio products. You'll lead the software development in all phases of design and collaborate with other Company divisions, such as Sales and Marketing, to establish use cases, requirements, and software tests. You'll also manage the software development work or external vendors to ensure Company software quality standards are met - because at Shure, quality matters.
This role is hybrid and based out of our Niles, IL Corporate Headquarters.
- Collaborates with marketing, and test and system engineering to define platform independent GUI application software use cases and requirements.
- Prototypes GUI application software using technologies such as Angular
- Participates in the architecture, design and development (coding) of platform independent GUI application software by providing technical expertise to internal Company software developers.
- Manages the software development work of third-party partner firms to ensure they meet Company software quality standards.
- Leads the creation of integration and test plans for platform independent GUI application software with other Company proprietary software (embedded systems)
- Researches and provides guidance on adopting new platform independent GUI application software technologies and IDEs, and integrates them into Company software development processes.
- Integrates and tests proprietary and non-proprietary networking communication protocols into platform independent GUI application software including common physical, datalink, network and transport layer protocol standards.
- Estimates, organizes, and documents tasks
- Reviews the design and code developed by peer engineers and guarantees software quality by the application.
- Mentors, on the technical level, lower-level staff members ensuring they modularize, estimate and prioritize work tasks efficiently.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. Graduate coursework is desirable.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience
- Possess wide-ranging experience in platform independent GUI application software development on PC Windows/Linux and Mac (OS X) platforms using professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
- Firm understanding and proven history of application of key software design principles such as separation of concerns, high cohesion and low coupling to facilitate reuse and maintainability in software architectures, designs and implementations; ability to decompose large, complex software systems into manageable subsystems with clearly defined interfaces
- Extensive knowledge of software development experience with Qt or web based platform independent technologies such as Flash
- Experience with integrating networking protocols such as Ethernet, USB and 802.11, IP, TCP/UDP, DHCP into platform independent application software in PC Windows/Linux and/or MAC OS X environments
- Minimum 5 years of development experience using C/C , preferably with an OO approach
- Demonstrated expertise with software development tools (IDEs) and network analyzers
- Minimum 5 years of experience with software version control and release, preferably with StarTeam and/or ClearCase
- Demonstrated ability of working on complex assignments where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors
- Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
- Determines methods on new assignments and provides guidance to other personnel

PAY TRANSPARENCY
Shure offers a competitive compensation structure that is reviewed annually to attract, hire, and retain the industry's top talent. Base salaries vary based on qualifications, geography, experience, and expertise in each respective discipline. The base salary range for this position is between $111,000 - $195,400. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target base salary for this opportunity. This position may also be eligible for our incentive pay program, which varies based on individual and Company performance in the year. If your salary expectations do not align, still apply as we are often flexible on the seniority of posted positions. All positions also include an award-winning benefits package.
