Mainframe Systems Administrator, Columbia, SC(Hybrid)

Job Title: Mainframe Systems Administrator
Client: BCBSSC
Location: Columbia, SC (Hybrid 3 days onsite/week & as needed)
Duration: 12 Months

Employment Type: Contract
Clearance: Should be Eligible for C2 clearance Work Hours: Core hours 8 AM to 5 PM (extended shifts required during DR exercises)

Important Notes:

• This is NOT a developer role it is strictly a mainframe systems position
• Not a COBOL position
• Local candidates preferred
• Must be available for Disaster Recovery Exercises (4 times/year), which may involve 12 24 hour shifts including weekends and off-hours

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide ongoing support and maintenance for z/OS mainframe systems
• Update and manage JCL scripts
• Monitor system performance and logs using SDSF
• Assist in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution
• Perform z/OS system recovery and recovery of related applications (DB2, CICS, MQ, etc.)
• Manage hardware/software licenses and support agreements
• Submit and track purchase requisitions for software/hardware needs

Must-Have Technical Skills:

• z/OS mainframe systems
• JCL, SDSF, Dataset management
• DASD management, z/OS HMC management
• APF (Authorized Program Facility) knowledge
• Familiarity with DB2, CICS, MQ
• Experience with BMC mainframe tools/applications

Soft Skills Required:

• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
• Must be self-motivated and able to work independently (not an entry-level role)
• Comfortable working in a collaborative team environment

Team Structure:

• Team of 4 Systems Administrators 1 Manager
• Supports both distributed and mainframe systems
• Interfaces with external customers
• Responsible for portability and disaster recovery efforts
