Summary
Assists Fabricators and Welders with joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Learns to interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Learn to inspect completed welds to determine structural soundness.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Learns and assists with the designs, fabricates, joins, fits/tack, and/or repair equipment, fixtures and various types of metal objects and structures using oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, MIG and TIG welding techniques.
• Learns to operate and assist with drill presses, power saws, grinders and a variety of welding equipment and hand tools.
• Learns to use and assist with rigging and cranes for movement of weldments
• Learns to and assist with cuts workpiece, using powered saws, hydraulic shears.
• Learns to and assist with installs or repairs equipment, such as lead pipes, valves, floors, and truck linings, and all components of welding machinery.
• Learns to and assist with welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
• Learns to and assist with igniting torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
• Learns basics of 2G (Horizontal Welding), 3G (Vertical/Uphill Welding), 4G (Overhead Welding)
• Learns basics how to analyze plans, drawings, work samples, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of welding assignments/techniques.
• Required to work overtime schedule as requested to meet production needs based on established overtime procedures.
• Learn how to do estimates for material and labor.
• Learns how to recommend supplies and materials to be ordered.

Qualifications
• Must be dependable.
• Strong customer service skills, both verbal and written.
• Have some knowledge of applicable codes.
• Knowledge of mathematics to solve problems.
• Familiar with welding techniques, (oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, and MIG, TIG, plastic welding), tools and equipment.
• Willing to learn skills in the fabrication, joining and repair of a variety of metal objects, equipment, fixtures and structures.
• Willing to acquire knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of emergency apparatus products.
• Knowledge of proper safety and protective equipment utilized during welding assignments.
Education and/or Experience
• High School Diploma or GED
• Two years of welding experience; OR similar and acceptable industry experience.
