Our Winder Apprenticeship Program focuses on developing talented Winders for deployment within our Motor Shop and Field Services divisions. This is a Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) under the Federal Government Apprenticeship USA program.
Over a period of 24-48 months you will rotate between our divisions to maximize your potential for learning all facets of generator maintenance and repair within the power generation industry. You will gain exposure to a range of project sizes from 1x repairs to multi-year, large scale government projects. You will have the opportunity to travel across the USA with potential for international assignments.
You will be mentored daily by skilled tradesmen and Site Leads, getting your hands dirty as you learn from the best. Your program will be overseen by our division Senior Management team, with executive oversight from our Founder and President who brings 30 years of experience in our trade.
Upon program completion you will be assigned to a Winder A/B/C position based on your capabilities, then will continue to have opportunities for skill development and advancement. Our career paths include roles such as Lead Winders, Generator Specialists, and Site Managers. We have skilled tradesmen and administrative teams motivated to mentor you.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of a Generator Winder include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Cleaning/removing rust, dirt, grease, solidified epoxy, chemicals, etc (steam cleaning, convection bake oven, VPI system, blasting)
- Using basic hand tooling (battery drills, die grinders, taps and dies etc.)
- Taking measurements (ID & OD micrometers and vernier callipers, etc)
- Static electrical testing (baker tester, megger, DLRO, multimeters, core loss)
- Spraying/applying insulation during finishing
- Rigging and transporting equipment and supplies (forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet jacks)
- Cleaning work areas
- Driving company vehicles (DOT)
- General assistance as requested
Your training program will include:
Costs for coursework, materials, and travel will be company paid.
- EASA Electromechanical Repair Technician Certification (ERT)
- Davis Technical College Courses
- 4,000 On-the-Job Training Hours
- GE Site Specific Training
- Equipment Manufacturer training curriculums
Experience & Skills
Required:
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
- Knowledge of basic hand and power tools
- Ability to read & write in English
- Ability to perform basic math with aptitude to expand knowledge
- Knows how to prioritize, multi-task, and find efficiencies while keeping details in check
- Effective communication and attention to detail
- Willingness and ability to quickly learn and comply with procedures – safety & quality have to be #1
Desired:
Familiarity with industrial work environments
- Experience with basic machine functions (milling, turning, drilling, tapping, de-burring, molding, bench operations)
- Knowledge of generators is huge plus
