The Chief Credit Officer (CCO) is an executive team leader responsible for managing the strategic direction of the lending division. In this role, you will design and implement both short- and long-term lending strategies to drive loan growth and meet financial performance goals. Your duties will include managing the loan portfolio, overseeing credit risk, and supervising lending operations. You would play a critical role ensuring SFCU's financial stability, regulatory compliance, and the overall quality of its loan portfolio. This position involves developing policies, procedures, and guidelines that align with federal regulations, while leading a high-performing lending team across consumer, commercial, mortgage, underwriting, and collections departments. Additionally, you will collaborate with the executive leadership team to support SFCU's Culture of Growth, with a strong focus on 'Growing the Member.'
Reporting location : Majority of time allocated onsite SFCU headquarters, 42 Union Street, Sidney NY 13838.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities :
Collaborates with the executive leadership team, Board of Directors, and volunteers to ensure the successful execution of the corporate strategic plan, culture of growth, and purpose 'Do Well, Do Good'.
Work closely with the executive team to align credit strategies with the credit union's overall financial goals and member centric approach.
Responsible for the development and execution of lending strategies that support and promote growth while managing risk effectively. This includes establishing lending goals, pricing strategies, and product offerings based on market analysis and member needs.
Develop, implement, and maintain credit risk policies and procedures that align with the credit union's overall enterprise-wide risk management (ERM) strategy and business objectives.
Monitor and analyze the credit quality of the loan portfolio, identifying trends, potential risks, and areas for improvement. Conduct regular reviews of the loan portfolio to assess performance, delinquency rates, and overall credit quality.
Implement strategies for loan diversification to minimize risk exposure and optimize returns.
Analyze economic and market data to inform lending decisions and strategies.
Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to lending and credit risk management and stay abreast of any changes in trends to proactively address potential impacts on the credit union's lending practices.
Prepare and present reports on credit risk and loan portfolio performance to the board of directors, volunteer committees, and regulatory authorities as required.
Foster a positive and productive work environment that encourages teamwork, professional development, accountability, exceptional member service (member experience) and continuous improvement (process excellence).
Provide training and development opportunities for staff to enhance their skills in credit analysis, risk assessment, and member service.
Set performance metrics, service level agreements (SLA's), and goals for the lending team, conducting regular evaluations to ensure effectiveness and alignment with organizational objectives.
Manages critical 3rd party lending relationships to optimize performance and production.
Collaborate with marketing and member services teams to promote lending products and enhance the member experience.
Leverage technology and data in credit decision-making processes with a focus on process excellence.
Knowledge and Skills :
Experience :
Minimum of 10 years relevant experience. Previous leadership roles within financial institutions, particularly in credit unions or community banks preferred.
Education :
Minimum requirement : Bachelor's degree in related field.
Masters or MBA preferred.
Certifications : Professional certifications such as Certified Credit Professional (CCP), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), or similar credentials may be advantageous.
Interpersonal Skills
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make informed decisions.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with a focus on team development and collaboration.
In-depth knowledge of credit risk assessment methodologies and regulatory requirements specific to the credit union industry.
Proficiency in using credit analysis tools and software, as well as an understanding of emerging technologies in lending.
