Responsibilities

This is a role well suited for a highly motivated student looking to build their skill set and gain hands-on experience. As a Radiation Protection Intern, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading Radiation Protection projects in PET radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facilities within the US with a focus on process mapping for cyclotron maintenance, biomarker production, and radiopharmaceutical distribution
  • Project lead for process mapping including radiation exposure and occupational dosimetry results
  • Identify high exposure tasks and participate in development of relevant shielding and engineering controls
  • Gain experience with handling of sealed sources and limited quantities of unsealed radioactive material
  • Gain familiarity with various radiation measurement instruments
  • Experience in this internship can be used to fulfill authorized user and/or thesis requirements

Skills

This position may suit you best if you are familiar with the areas and concepts below, and would like to develop your skills within Healthineers:

  • Radiation and Health Physics
  • A general understanding of the radiation physics and interactions with matter
  • Previous experience with radiation protection instrumentation and units
  • Data Management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ability to manage and analyze large datasets
  • Project Management
  • Ability to self-manage assigned tasks within defined timeframes

Required skills and education to have for the success of this role:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD degree program, majoring in Health Physics, Nuclear Pharmacy, Nuclear Engineering, or similar programs
  • Ability to travel within the US
  • Hybrid work locations including in the Knoxville, TN corporate office, onsite at PET manufacturing facilities within the US, and remote work as necessary
  • Ability to work non-standard hours to align with PET manufacturing schedules
  • Willingness to be trained as a radiation authorized employee and assignment/wearing of personal dosimetry
