The MDS Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the quality of care provided to residents in nursing facilities and home care settings. Duties
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of residents using the Minimum Data Set (MDS) to determine their needs and develop appropriate care plans.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure that all aspects of resident care are addressed and documented accurately.
- Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements related to MDS submissions and ensure timely completion of assessments.
- Perform utilization reviews to assess the appropriateness of services provided and identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with HIPAA regulations, ensuring confidentiality and security of patient information.
- Provide training and support to nursing staff regarding MDS processes, coding, and documentation standards.
- Stay updated on changes in regulations related to MDS, DRG, and other relevant healthcare policies.
Requirements
- Proven experience in home care or nursing home settings is preferred.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and medical coding practices is essential.
- Knowledge of utilization review processes and DRG systems is highly desirable.
- Experience working in ICU or pediatrics is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- A valid nursing license or relevant certification may be required depending on the specific healthcare setting.
