Position Summary

Responsible for originating and servicing a variety of commercial loans (conventional, CRE, SBA, C&I) to include some complex credits in a start-up environment. Responsible for developing and managing commercial loan accounts that meet established lending requirements and maximize profitability to the credit union with minimal risk. Provides portfolio maintenance and loan administration in accordance with SCCU and NCUA policies.

Essential Functions

  • Develops new business and expands existing relationships.
  • Make calls on potential new commercial lending relationships. Identify needs, secure financial data for analysis and make proposals for new business.
  • Grow loan portfolio by marketing, making and managing commercial and MBL loans.
  • Assist prospective and current business owners with credit needs and with formulating solutions to credit related issues.
  • Review existing member relationships for opportunities to meet additional needs with other products or services; make proposals as appropriate.
  • Interview business loan applicants, gather credit application information to determine business needs.
  • Explain loan options, rates, terms and collateral requirements; cross selling other applicable SCCU products and services.
  • Communicate and negotiate credit terms and repayment schedules within established guidelines.
  • Compile loan proposal information and present loans which exceed credit authority to loan committee for recommendation and approval
  • Maintain current knowledge of commercial and MBL loan products and services as well as knowledge of the markets within the credit union's footprint.
  • Manage all loans within the loan portfolio and perform ongoing monitoring and risk rating functions.
  • Responsible for identification and evaluation of deteriorating loan situations in order to minimize losses.
  • Ensure all business loans are compliant with credit union policies, procedures, NCUA, federal and state regulations.
  • Ensure all assigned production goals are met on a regular basis.
  • Represent the credit union at various community functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Proven ability to successfully develop new business and expand existing business relationships.
  • Proven ability to work with potential commercial lending relationships to identify needs and secure financial data for analysis, making new proposals for new business.
  • Proven track record in sales ability and aptitude in the area of business development.
  • Ability to grown loan portfolio by marketing and managing commercial and MBL loans.
  • Ability to assist prospective and current business owners with credit needs and formulating solutions to credit related issues.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining a high attention to detail.
  • Must possess strong sales skills and proven negotiating ability.
  • Must know all the products and services of the credit union regarding loan products and be able to describe them in detail.
  • Must be aware of how the credit union operates, its policies regarding lending and membership requirements.
  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelors’ degree in a business-related field or significant relevant experience with a proven successful track record.
  • Requires five years in commercial lending and managing a commercial loan portfolio and member service with a strong emphasis in business product knowledge.
  • CRE, C&I and SBA origination experience preferred.
  • May operate with commercial lending authority as established by credit policy.
