Overview
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Associate Attorney to join our legal team in Hilo. The ideal candidate will have experience in family law and a strong commitment to advocating for clients in emotionally sensitive legal matters. This role involves handling a diverse caseload, representing clients in court proceedings, and providing strategic legal counsel.
Responsibilities
- Represent clients in family law cases, including divorce, custody, paternity, guardianship, and restraining orders
- Draft pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, and other legal documents
- Conduct legal research and stay updated on Hawaii family law statutes and case law
- Advocate for clients in court hearings, trials, and mediations
- Engage in case strategy discussions and settlement negotiations
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, and third parties
- Maintain accurate case documentation and manage deadlines efficiently
- Provide mentorship and guidance to legal support staff and paralegals.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in Hawaii (or eligibility for admission)
- 2 years of experience in family law or a related practice area preferred
- Strong litigation, negotiation, and client advocacy skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism
- Experience with legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management software (Clio, MyCase, or similar)
