What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Sierra Instruments?
- Purchase materials, supplies and services (commodity responsibilities include raw materials, semi-finished products and finished goods such as circuit boards, machined parts and MRO)
- With key partners in scheduling and manufacturing, create sourcing plans that support Sierra’s revenue plan.
- Qualify vendors, evaluate bids and negotiate pricing/terms for both purchased goods and services
- Support product development by sourcing sample and prototype materials
- Source new suppliers to reduce cost and lead time
- Consistently maximize savings and inventory turns
- Manage blanket POs and consignment inventory
- Negotiate price, delivery and payment terms
- Review MRP planned orders and exception reports to determine material requirements and
- Coordinate with business functional areas to obtain information, resolve problems and identify purchasing requirements for new and redesigned products and services
- Coordinate and assist with departmental project management initiatives
- Assist with quality management directives and the processing of non-conforming materials
- Assist with metric and report management, as needed
- Track supplier performance via scorecards
- Maintain and update all departmental Standard Operating Procedures; Ensure Departmental compliance
- Create, review and monitor both exception and progress reports
- Assist with coordination of cost-saving initiatives
- Perform any other duties or responsibilities, as assigned
