Engineering Technician V - Software Engineering Specialist

The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) team at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in the areas of aeropropulsion and space propulsion and power test facilities. TFOME management is dedicated to excellence in service and to providing outstanding technical opportunities for our employees. We specialize in providing unique products and services to NASA Glenn. We are currently seeking an Engineering Technician V - Software Engineering Specialist to perform non-routine and complex assignments that involves the standardizing of archival data packages generated at the end of test campaigns using Hierarchal Data Format v5 (HDF5). Design and develop applications to package facility test data generated by the COBRA data acquisition system used at GRC AETC facilities into HDF5 format; extract data from the HDF5 into Comma Separated Variables (CSV) format; and import the HDF5 into the COBRA data system for processing.

• Obtain inputs from the COBRA Development Team for capturing and storing test data within the HDF5 structure.
• Provide deliverables to include mapping of the COBRA test data, and extraction of metadata into a HDF5 Specification Document.
• Work closely with the COBRA Development Team and stakeholders to help develop, document, and maintain all requirements for reprocessing COBRA data stored in the HDF5 format.
• Conduct requirements review with the COBRA Development Team and stakeholders as required.
• Develop, document, and maintain software design and performance for reprocessing COBRA data stored in HDF5 format.
• Conduct deployment readiness reviews as required, such as reviews conducted prior to deployment of the code.
• Associate of applied sciences degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or equivalent Technical Certificate Program in the field of Electronics Engineering, and a minimum of five years’ experience.
• Working knowledge of python programming language, Linux, C programming language and Gitlab or other source code repository systems.
• Experience developing written documentation and reports, highly proficient use of all MS office software products.
• Knowledge of HDF5 specification and Qt programming for GUI development desired.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision.
• Ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of workflow.
• Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness.
