What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Swimming Coach position at Sierra Marlins Swim Team?
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistant Swimming Coach specializing in age group and/or senior level swimming to join our aquatic coaching team. The Assistant Swimming Coach will primarily focus on coaching and mentoring swimmers within the age group and/or senior category, fostering their skill development, competitive spirit, and love for the sport. This role requires a deep understanding of swimming techniques, strong communication skills, and the ability to motivate young athletes.
Responsibilities:
1. Age Group Coaching:
1. Design and implement age-appropriate training programs for swimmers aged 5-14, focusing on technique, endurance, and competition readiness.
2. Conduct regular training sessions, emphasizing stroke mechanics, starts, turns, and finishes.
3. Provide individualized feedback and guidance to each swimmer to enhance their performance and skill progression.
4. Foster a positive and supportive team environment that encourages camaraderie, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
2. Meet Preparation and Participation:
1. Assist in organizing and coordinating swimmers' participation in local, regional, and national competitions.
2. Develop meet strategies and tactics tailored to individual and team goals.
3. Attend swim meets and provide on-deck coaching, warm-ups, and race analysis to optimize swimmers' performance.
3. Communication and Collaboration:
1. Maintain open and effective communication channels with swimmers, parents, and fellow coaching staff.
2. Collaborate with the head coach and other assistant coaches to align training methodologies and ensure consistency across all swim groups.
3. Address any concerns or issues promptly and professionally, fostering a culture of transparency and accountability.
4. Athlete Development and Support:
1. Monitor swimmers' progress and identify areas for improvement, adjusting training plans as needed to maximize potential.
2. Provide guidance on goal setting, time management, and nutrition to support swimmers' holistic development.
3. Serve as a mentor and role model, instilling values of dedication, resilience, and sportsmanship in young athletes.
5. Administrative Duties:
1. Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, equipment maintenance, and facility coordination.
2. Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, rules, and regulations governing swimming practices and competitions.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a competitive swimmer at the collegiate or national level preferred.
Certified USA Swimming Coach or equivalent certification required. Strong knowledge of swimming techniques, training methodologies, and competitive strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with swimmers of all ages and skill levels.
- Passion for working with children and adolescents, promoting their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Demonstrated leadership abilities and a collaborative approach to coaching. Current CPR, First Aid, and USA Swimming certifications (or willingness to obtain).
