Ascend Behavioral Health is hiring a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor to join our team at our 24-hour residential treatment center setting and support the continued growth of our organization in Bakersfield, CA. Our SUD Counselors play a vital role in providing counseling, facilitating psychoeducational groups, and working collaboratively with the care team to deliver high-quality treatment to individuals in our care. We are looking for a dedicated individual who thrives in a fast-paced, residential setting and is passionate about working with a diverse population facing moderate to severe substance use and mental health challenges.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Completes admissions/intakes for new clients
- Communicate weekly with family &/or referral sources regarding client progress and/or changes (as allowed via client consent)
- Compose and enter daily progress notes & group notes for clients
- Facilitate transportation when required
- Participate in scheduled site visits
- Crisis Intervention as needed
- Documentation and treatment plan reviews
- Prepare group materials and researching new methodologies for inclusion in group and individual sessions
- Assess and make recommendations regarding clients level of care & continuing/aftercare, following up to monitor aftercare recommendations
- Conduct family meetings
- Manage clients budget
- Conduct daily educational and/or experiential client groups
- Create and implement client's schedule into program and communicate client’s needs to treatment team
- Coordinate admissions and discharges with the Program Manager
- Attend all mandatory clinical and staff meetings and required company trainings
- Collaborate with Program Manager regarding any and all actions for clients
- Abide by all DHCS, Agency, JCAHO and all state and federal governing agencies' regulations
- Maintain active drug & alcohol certification/license through a DHCS-approved certifying organization
- Attend industry related workshops, trainings, and conferences for professional development (prior approval required)
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Requirements
- Current certification through a licensed certified board of alcohol and drug counseling educator or registered RADT-1
- One to three years of experience as an AOD/SUD Counselor and/or Case Manager with strong professional references attesting to a high degree of clinical sophistication
- Specific knowledge helpful in process addiction and treatment resources
- Advanced assessment, treatment planning, discharge planning, and documentation skills
- Knowledge of treatment and referral community
- Knowledge of dual diagnosis treatment practices including non-pharmacological symptoms management techniques
Other Requirements: Obtain CPR/First Aid Certification, TB test, health screening, negative drug test, ,medical clearance to work, pass pre-employment drug screenings.
