Position: Medical Assistant
Reports to: Clinical Supervisor
Medical Assistant Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant is responsible for rooming patients and ensuring patient charts are prepped prior to being seen by providers. As well, Medical Assistants are to assist doctors as necessary in clinic.
Administrative
- Deliver compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families
- Prepare patient’s charts for appointments by obtaining and entering lab, diagnostic, hospital admission and
circle of care reports
- Scanning, indexing, and organizing documentation from referring and outside physicians and hospitals
Clinical
- Supports clinic flow by promptly and accurately room patients, obtain vitals, review medications, social history
to prepare the office note for the provider
- Represents physicians by screening incoming telephone calls; recording and transmitting messages; scheduling,
receiving, and announcing scheduled patients and visitors; screening unscheduled patients and visitors;
arranging referrals to other health care providers; scheduling appointments for consultations, x-rays, lab tests,
physical therapy, MRI's, CT scans, etc.
- Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory
specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing
medical instruments; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed;
telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies
Minimum Qualifications
Skills/Characteristics:
A medical assistant must be well organized, be able to multitask, and manage time effectively. They should interact with patients with compassion and respect. They must be able to communicate and maintain effective professional relationships with patients, providers, and co-workers.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Medical Front Desk Staff or similar role preferred.
Medical Assisting Certification required.
Education:
Highschool Diploma, GED, or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
This position requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and stooping throughout the day as the Medical Assistant moves throughout the clinic. Additionally, this position may require some driving to satellite clinics.
