  • Candidates must have 2 years experience in Surgery as an RN in Acute Care. BSN required, or obtain within 18 months of hire. BLS, ACLS required, or within 90 days of hire
  • Job Description : PATIENT POPULATION :

    The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.

    POSITION SUMMARY :

    Under the general direction of the Director of Surgical Services and in collaboration with the Operations Manager, the Clinical Manager independently provides holistic, individualized care using the Nursing Process for patients routinely seen on the unit. Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical competency, judgment, teaching skills, and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care. Independently performs general and unit-specific clinical skills. Contributes to the Sierra View Medical Center's Department of Patient Care Services and the Nursing profession in a positive manner.

    Collaborates with the Department Director to provide 24-hour, 7-day / week management oversight of the following departments : OR, Flexcare, PACU, Central Processing Department, Cardiac Cath Lab, Endoscopy and Ambulatory Surgical sites. Will be responsible for ensuring the department and all individuals in the department achieve the vision and clinical expectations for the assessment, treatment, and care of patients as appropriate to the ages of patients served. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all patient groups."

    Must be able to work normal / scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have evidence of leadership skills, successful interpersonal relations, and accepting increased responsibility in Supervision, Administration, and Education. Five (5) years clinical experience in Surgical Services with progressive leadership experience (service line, charge, and manager. Must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. BSN required or in progress to be achieved within 18 months of acceptance into the position. MSN Preferred

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required.

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills with using an EMR and Microsoft Office Products such as Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint"

    LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS :

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. Must have and maintain current American Heart Association BLS. A national certification in related field identified within 90 days of hire. The national certification will be identified and the time frame to complete the certification will be approved by the respective VP within 90 days of accepting the position.

    Responsibilities and Essential Functions :

  • Is responsible for the planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and documenting of Administrative and Management duties pertinent to the department.
  • Demonstrates ability to successfully perform all duties, responsibilities and accountabilities of the staff R.N. job description.
  • Serves as a Clinical Resource person for staff, new orientees and students during the shift.
  • a. Maintains current knowledge of advance clinical skills.

    b. Demonstrates knowledge of Hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

    c. Supports all Nursing department programs.

    d. Assists Department Director, as needed.

  • Coordinates staffing needs with the Director and / or the Staffing Coordinator / Nursing Supervisor.
  • Facilitates problem solving and promotes cooperative communication and maintains appropriate documentation.
  • Actively participates in achieving and maintaining department compliance with all state, federal and third party regulatory agency standards. Is accountable for maintaining your department at "Survey Ready" status at all times.
  • Demonstrates continuous improvement in measures specific to your department that benchmark the Organization's performance against national standards and results in maximum reimbursement to the Organization.
  • Assumes or supports Charge Nurse role and makes patient care assignments as needed based on patient acuity, staff qualifications and available resources.
  • Demonstrates adaptability / flexibility in meeting unit needs.
  • a. Provides staffing support as requested by Director, i.e. scheduling flexibility, working extra shifts on short notice, low census days.

    b. Demonstrates ability / flexibility to assist in unusual clinical situations, i.e. temporary reassignment.

    c. Promotes an atmosphere for open communication with respect for the individual.

    d. Accepts and supports changes in a proactive positive fashion.

    e. Interpersonal relationships demonstrate an understanding of personal responsibility to represent Nursing and Sierra View Medical Center in a courteous, helpful and productive manner.

    f. Participates in Quality Assurance activities and integrates findings into practice.

    g. Demonstrates sensitivity and awareness of patient's rights in handling confidential patient information.

  • Represents appropriate practice and directs others to follow or reference Hospital policies, procedures or Standards of Nursing Care.
  • 11 Models appropriate communication and assists other staff in the identification of appropriate communication channels and methods.

  • Payroll practices follow Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Proactive disciplinary actions :
  • a. Collaborates with Department Directors regarding disciplinary actions.

    b. Delivers disciplinary actions as assigned by the Director.

    14 Performs or delegates routine observation and chart audits to ensure compliance with SCIP and NPSG.

    15 Ensures daily OR monitoring, i.e. room temps, crash and MH carts, sterilizer logs.

    SURGICAL SERVICES CLINICAL MANAGER SPECIFIC DUTIES :

  • In absence of Charge Nurse, assumes responsibility of the scheduling board, assignments (including call coverage and assurance of daily charge entries.)
  • Assists with peri-operative patient care, needed to provide for patient safety, continuity of care and to assure staff breaks.
  • Collaborates with Director of Surgery, Operations Manager and Materials Management in addressing physician requests for peri-operative supplies and equipment, maintaining fiscal awareness.
  • Collaborates with Director of Surgical Services and Operations Manager in meetings with manufacturer vendors.
  • Ensures Central Processing Department (CPD) compliance, efficiencies and productivity in daily operations, including instrument processing, and emergency supplies and equipment processing and distribution.
  • Collaborates with Perioperative Educator to ensure staff education and competency on new peri-operative surgical instrumentation, equipment and technology after assignments.
  • Performs or delegates routine observation and chart audits to assure compliance with SCIP and NPSG.
  • Ensures daily peri-operative monitoring; i.e. room temps, crash and MH carts, sterilizer logs.
