Job Description:
PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served is all patients, including geriatric, adult, and adolescent. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the department Leader(s), the Cardiac Cath Lab Radiology Tech performs professional duties involved in a variety of technical procedures and is responsible for all imaging aspects in the Cardiac Cath Lab and IR with latitude for independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Responsible for patient care, comfort and completion of required procedures. Must maintain the department in compliance with rules and regulations set forth by governing agencies. May be assigned to work in other Imaging modalities. Must follow AIDET and accepts reassignments and additional duties, when necessary, in a flexible and positive manner. Must maintain an environment of cohesiveness and teamwork. Must maintain the department in compliance with rules and regulations set forth by governing agencies.
Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

To perform this job successfully, two (2) years of experience in Interventional Radiology/Cardiac Cath Lab preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be capable of dealing effectively and ethically with co-workers, physicians, and other Hospital personnel.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have and maintain current licensure as a Diagnostic Radiological Technologist and Fluoroscopy in the state of California. Must have and maintain ARRT certification. Must have and maintain current BLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Indicates Essential Function
1* Performs diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures, radiographic procedures using prescribed positions, technical factors and immobilization devices as required and is responsible for the quality of the images. Delivers direct patient care and is responsible for the assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all patient groups.
2* Orders and maintains a complete inventory of supplies for Cath Lab needs.
3* Performs Angiography tests and Diagnostic Cardiac procedures according to protocol.
4* Utilizes sterile techniques as needed. Prepares sterile trays for procedures.
5* Selects, operates and maintains equipment, as directed, and provides radiation protection in accordance with prescribed Safety Standards.
6* Maintains adequate records as directed and is responsible for maintaining a clean and neat work area.
7* Understands and demonstrates utilization of the hardware in the Digital Radiology system according to protocol.
8* Understands and demonstrates utilization of the archiving system, i.e. digitizing, burns CDs to send with patient and/or families, according to protocol. Able to print hard copy with the Laser Printer, when necessary.
9 Operates Angio-Cath Lab., selecting proper technical factors for each exam.
a. Maintains high image quality.
10 Responsible for various clerical and Quality Assurance duties as assigned.
11 Assists Radiologist with contrast materials. Will assist the physician and scrub in, in terms of manifold set up, operation of cardiac output and all modalities of monitoring the patient while in procedure.
12 Performs venipuncture procedures for the purpose of contrast administration under supervision of attending Radiologist.
a. Has ascertained patient’s allergy history and informed Radiologist or attending physician. Knowledge of universal precautions when dealing with bloody or bodily fluids.
13 Operates automatic, selecting proper flow rates and volumes for exam being performed.
a. Thorough knowledge of injector operation and flow rates/volumes, thus ensuring patient safety.
14 Enters correct information on keyboard, (patient name, birth date, etc.). Ensures proper name and patient id #'s on exams
16 Keeps work area clean and orderly. Reports and documents equipment malfunctions to Lead Tech and/or Director.
a. To ensure clean exam room for all patients and to have all equipment malfunctions addressed by a service engineer in a timely manner.
17 Is cross trained in Angio and Cardiac Cath Lab.
a. Knowledge of Angio system and procedures, ability to train new employees. Assists in instruction of Radiologic Technology students in respective areas
18 Demonstrates ability to deviate from normal procedure and improve techniques for obtaining diagnostic exams in emergencies and unusual situations.
19 Is capable of recognizing a diagnostically acceptable exam and consistently producing Angio and Cardiac Cath Lab exams of the same quality.

20 Accepts reassignments and additional duties, when necessary, in a flexible and positive manner.
Professional Clinical Responsibilities/Quality Indicators:
1 Maintains adequate records as directed and is responsible for maintaining a clean and neat work area.
2 Performs basic equipment function checks at the beginning of each shift
3 Maintains an average of no more than 2-3 errors and in the Computed Radiology System 2-3 errors=4.
4 Responsible for delegated areas in the assignment of routine procedures.
5 May assist in the development of examination routines and techniques.
6 Completes all exams in Meditech and Synapse P.A.C.S. software. Ensures that all documents are scanned, as necessary, and that all notes for the patient encounter are typed into the Synapse P.A.C.S. "Note Section".
