Job Description:
PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Food & Nutrition Service Director, the Diet Aide functions in a variety of areas including the patient food service, food production, retail food service and dish-room.
Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

Food service experience preferred. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Ability to calculate simple mathematical problems. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form."

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Indicates Essential Function
1 * Ensures Infection Control guidelines are followed.
2 * Interviews patient for food preferences, cultural/religious food preferences, retrieves nutritional information and reports from Meditech, provides a variety of patient services related responsibilities such as food preparation, department sanitation, etc... Processes diet changes according to established procedures.
3 * Documents accurate patient intake information in the Meditech computer system.
4 * Performs a variety of duties related to patient meal service, including tray-line, cart transport, late tray set-up and delivery, and tray pickup, according to established standards. As assigned, assists in the preparation of salads, desserts, nourishments, and specials. Answers telephone promptly, routing calls or taking messages as appropriate.
5 Meets regularly with Registered Dietitians maintaining open communication for patient care.
6 Manages time effectively to meet patient and department workload.
7 May perform retail services, operate dish machine or work three-part sink areaas needed and completes other Food Service Operations as assigned.
8 Maintains CBORD Cord File with accurate tray service notes per diet orders or instructions.
Reports any issues with the CBORD System to Director as issues arise.
