Job Overview
Siesta Key Dog is seeking a dedicated and passionate Dog Walker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a love for animals and the ability to provide exceptional care for dogs while ensuring their safety and well-being during walks and pet sitting visits. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy being active outdoors and have experience in animal handling. Must be able to care for dogs and cats of all sizes and breeds. From bending down to harness a 5 pound chihuahua to safely walking a 70 pound reactive large breed dog.
Responsibilities
- Walk dogs of various sizes and breeds, ensuring they receive adequate exercise and stimulation.
- Monitor the behavior of dogs during walks, addressing any issues that may arise.
- Maintain control of dogs at all times, utilizing proper animal handling techniques.
- Provide basic care, including feeding and administering medication if necessary.
- Ensure that all dogs are leashed appropriately and follow safety protocols.
- Clean up after dogs during walks to maintain a clean environment.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding their dog's behavior and needs.
- Report any health or behavioral concerns to pet owners promptly.
Qualifications
- Experience in animal care or handling, particularly with dogs, is preferred.
- Skills in veterinary techniques, animal restraint, or pet grooming are advantageous.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required when handling larger breeds or equipment.
- Strong understanding of dog behavior and training methods is a plus.
- Previous experience as a veterinary technician or in a kennel setting is beneficial.
- Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to work independently.
- A genuine love for animals and commitment to their well-being is essential.
