The Animal Department Supervisor supports the mission of Sight & sound by providing overall leadership to the Animals Department and helping to create a culture of oneness built on trust and teamwork.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Shepherd the Animals Department in alignment with our core values and culture.
- Collaborate with all necessary departments in both locations to oversee the planning, implementation, and running of animal elements for rehearsals, show run, and other required company events.
- Oversee the hiring, coaching, training, development, and scheduling of all team members to achieve company goals and objectives.
- Advocate for your team while also placing a high priority on the needs, objectives, and challenges of other teams and the entire organization.
- Collaborate with the Show Operations Leadership Team to help maintain the technical and artistic vision of the show.
- Conduct regular 1 on 1’s and team meetings in order to provide support, positive influence, and accountability as well as attend any required leadership meetings.
- Wisely steward all resources to optimize departmental health and productivity.
- Maintain all established safety standards and regulations as it pertains to your department.
Prerequisites:
- Previous experience successfully leading a team including hiring, budgeting, and training
- Ability to remain calm, flexible, and positive throughout all work environments
- Excellent communication, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills
- High level of concern for the welfare of people and animals, and a proven ability to foster genuine, healthy relationships
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Ability to discreetly handle confidential and sensitive information
- Previous theatre and leadership experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience and rapport with a wide variety of animals, along with their care and training strongly preferred
