What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Buyer position at Sigma Equipment?
The Inside Buyer will be responsible for assessing customer equipment for potential additions to the SIGMA inventory as well as prospecting leads for other teams within SIGMA Group. The role will report to the buying team lead and collaborate heavily with the Acquisitions (AQ) Team and other areas across SIGMA - Auctions, Sales, Integration, Shop, Recovery, and C & I.
As an Inside Buyer you will collect potential customer leads from various sources such as websites, call-ins, other departments, trade shows, canvassing and phone prospecting. You will then qualify and close those leads. You will coordinate with the Business Development Coordinator and Account Managers to hand off qualified opportunities that require site visits.
This position is responsible for sourcing used manufacturing equipment to maintain SIGMA Equipment’s inventory. The Inside Buyer is responsible for researching and evaluating equipment spare parts to determine if SIGMA Equipment can resell it. If the equipment is resellable, the Inside Buyer will negotiate terms with the seller. We are looking for an entrepreneur who is driven to stock the shelves for all divisions of SIGMA Group. Inside Buyers will make a competitive base salary, plus a performance incentive for quality equipment acquisitions. This position will be located in Evansville, IN.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prospecting calls to potential customers and convey the benefits of selling equipment
- Manage the queue of supplier leads and ensure the leads are contacted in a timely manner
- Work with clients to determine the best method for selling idle assets (crate program, direct purchase, consignment, auction, etc.)
- Negotiate purchase offers with sellers (as well as AQ Inventory Manager/AQ Director) in order to win the opportunity
- Maintain the monthly purchasing quota by utilizing current buying method buckets
- Follow-up on outstanding seller leads
- Create equipment listings for completed purchase orders. This will include equipment documentation, machinery pictures, manuals, technical research findings and used dealer market research findings
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in a technical, business or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Experience with food manufacturing equipment and processes preferred.
- Technical minded, engineer’s mindset with the ability use critical thinking in all layers of the role
- Strong customer service focus and background
- Ability to own the process from start to finish; highly organized
- Previous buying/selling experience is strongly preferred
- A learner mentality - constantly absorbing information given
- Self motivated and disciplined
- High computer proficiency skills and can navigate systems easily
- Demonstrated negotiation and closing experience; preferably in a B2B environment
- Strong oral and written communication; represents the company in a professional manner
- Ability to adapt in a fast changing environment - forward thinking
Physical/Travel Requirements:
- Travel is required - up to 25% of time traveling to visit clients and catalog equipment to determine best purchase options (globally, if needed)
