What You Will Do
- Experience in diverse nuclear safety issues at DOE nuclear facilities and within the NNSA complex, including nuclear criticality safety.
- Experience in investigation and/or resolution of nuclear safety issues.
- A strategic and analytical thinker with experience and demonstrated success in coordination, review, and assessment for improving nuclear safety organizational performance.
- Completion of tasks will require the technical expertise of an SME having experience in the review of DOE nuclear facility operations, demonstrated success in problem solving and causal analysis, and demonstrated ability in the formulation of operational and/or organizational improvements that have been successfully implemented.
- The scope of work involves nuclear safety subject matter expert (SME) support including but not limited to the following activities: meeting attendance including Nuclear Criticality Safety Committee (NCSC) meetings.
- For the NCSC meetings, the subcontractor SME acts as a senior technical specialist for the
- Committee; establishes agendas; advises presenters; leads subgroups requested by the committee on special issues; coordinates external committee member tours, coordinates the annual report, and prepares minutes of Committee meetings.
- The SME prepares monthly summaries of NCS related highlights (YFO, DNFSB, LL, Y-12 NCS issues, etc.), to include presentations relating to status, highlights, and issues.
- The SME also continues to provide coordination, review, and assessment for improving Y-12 performance in the nuclear criticality safety function.
- Candidates considered for hire, after receiving an offer, must pass a federal background and federal drug test before beginning their work assignment. Refusal to submit to drug testing or not passing the drug test will result in disqualification of further employment consideration.
- Nuclear safety specialist with a bachelor degree (engineering preferred).
- 10 to 15 years of experience or MA/MS degree (engineering preferred).
- 8 to 13 years of experience in diverse nuclear safety issues at DOE nuclear facilities and within the NNSA complex, including nuclear criticality safety.
- Experience in investigation and/or resolution of nuclear safety issues.
- Onsite with some telework.
- Oak Ridge, TN.
