About the role

We are looking for a technically skilled and developer-focused mid to senior level writer to join the Sigma technical writing team and play a key role in transforming complex technical concepts into comprehensive, effective documentation for our customer developer and admin audiences. Your natural curiosity, resourcefulness, and adaptability will be your greatest assets. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who can seamlessly manage multiple tasks, communicate effectively, and excel in our fast-paced environment.

In this role, you will actively engage with technical pods, collaborating closely with Product Managers, Engineering, and Design teams throughout the entire product development lifecycle. You will be pivotal in crafting documentation that supports engineering teams releasing updates frequently. Your proactive identification of documentation gaps and commitment to improving our documentation culture will be instrumental in creating exceptional resources for our customers.

What you will be doing

  • Take ownership of an existing set of technical guidance aimed at developers and admins implementing Sigma's software and use data, feedback from customer-facing teams, and your judgment to rearchitect it for quality and effectiveness.
  • Work closely with the development team (including engineers, designers, and product managers) throughout the development process to understand features and functionality at the level of a subject matter expert and produce clear and effective customer-facing documentation and release notes.
  • Explore and validate product features through rigorous testing, sharing insights with the team.
  • Create and maintain sample applications that integrate with developer- and admin-focused product features and use them to create code samples and step-by-step tutorials.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams in github by submitting and reviewing pull requests in both engineering and documentation repositories.
  • Develop visually captivating, dynamic documentation that includes diagrams, screenshots, and other visual aids.
  • Work collaboratively and closely with other writers to ensure consistent and cohesive content, style, and messaging.
  • Develop value driven materials that articulate practical use cases and demonstrate the benefits of key features, bridging functionality with real world application.

Requirements

  • 5 years of enterprise software technical writing experience requiring self-sufficiency and autonomy in day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Established technical documentation expertise in API reference and developer documentation.
  • Proficiency with SQL, Python, and JavaScript.
  • Exceptional written and spoken communication skills, emphasizing clarity and usability for developer and admin audiences.
  • Experience writing use-case based documentation that demonstrates product benefits and integration opportunities to technical audiences.
  • Hands-on approach to understanding complex technology and products.
  • Outstanding time management skills, with ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using documentation tools and software, such as content management systems (preferably Markdown-based), version control systems, and other relevant writing and publishing tools.
  • Writing samples that showcase your ability to help developers successfully use a technically complex product to meet their goals.

What we offer you

  • A team of extraordinarily talented peers who are dedicated to the craft of creating high-quality, customer-pleasing content.
  • Opportunities to influence our style and standards, and participate in lively discussions about how to best present our content to users.
  • Opportunities to participate in developer evangelism and build out Sigma's community.
  • A collaborative and supportive work environment.
