We are a non-profit organization dedicated to providing behavioral health services for youth, adults and families across Colorado. We manage mental health and substance use prevention, treatment and recovery services that are accessible, affordable, and efficacious for consumers of these services. Through effective management and coordination of services, Signal aims to increase efficiencies across substance abuse disorder service systems, to strengthen linkages between human services systems and providers, and to more closely tailor services to the needs and strengths of consumers.
We also support Coloradoans through crisis services and crisis adjacent services for youth and families. Our youth and family service team helps to provide timely access to comprehensive clinical assessment and service linkage for youth with high acuity mental health needs.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Assessment Specialist will support the care needs of children, youth and families experiencing a self-defined crisis or at-risk of out of home placement by conducting comprehensive, robust mental health assessments. This role will support Signal’s commitment to ensuring the availability of and access to high-quality behavioral health services in the regionally contracted counties on behalf of the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) of the State of Colorado. The Assessment Specialist will serve as a vital member of the Clinical Services team and will help link individuals and families to clinically appropriate services and resources through clinical assessment and determination of treatment recommendations.
A day-in-the life as our Assessment Specialist may include:
- Support individuals and families by providing active and reflective listening as part of needs assessment and development of treatment service recommendations.
- Provide timely assessment services for those requesting a comprehensive assessment, monitoring and ensuring that contractually required timeframes are met.
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments that synthesize information gathered from multiple parties, including face-to-face youth interview and obtaining collateral information from caregivers and family members, treatment providers, DHS, juvenile justice, other key team members/stakeholders, and through conducting comprehensive clinical record review.
- Utilize the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) tool, American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria, and other evidence-based tools as indicated to assist in clinical recommendations.
- Receive feedback on assessment practices and written reports, revising as needed to ensure clients receive high quality, consistent assessment services.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings as needed or programmatically required to explain assessment findings, including client needs and treatment recommendations, and support in consensus building to develop a plan of care.
- Complete highly professional and clearly articulated written assessment reports utilizing the approved assessment templates.
- Complete timely and consistent entry of case notes and other client information into the clinical record.
- Facilitate quality review and feedback of assessment reports for Signal’s contracted assessment network to ensure consistency in meeting standards of care and producing a high-quality product.
- Participate in cross-department collaboration related to professional development, care delivery, and quality monitoring and engage in program evaluation and continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Understand and adhere to contractual requirements and best practices for care delivery under the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA), Children and Youth Mental Health Treatment Act (CYMHTA), Medicaid, or other programs on behalf of Signal’s contract with the Behavioral Health Administration.
Qualified candidates will possess:
- Excellent customer service delivery and high degree of professionalism.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in all settings including one-on-one and in group settings.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Solid judgment with high standards of accuracy, responsiveness, integrity, and discretion.
- Ability to evaluate priorities to manage several projects simultaneously, work independently and research solutions with minimal direction, and work well under deadlines and in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to work in a team setting and receive and provide constructive feedback.
- Organized and detail-oriented with strong time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and able to learn other electronic systems.
- Knowledge of mental health and substance use delivery systems including State and/or local government programs, behavioral healthcare entities, and related organizations.
- Two years of experience in direct clinical service delivery required, with an emphasis in clinical assessment, including diagnosis, and youth and family populations preferred.
- Hold or obtain certification in the CANS upon hire.
- Knowledge of practical and theoretical application of ASAM preferred.
- Ability to pass background check.
- Ability to transport self to work and to various assignments throughout Colorado.
- Valid driver’s license.
Education Requirements
- Master’s degree in relevant area such as Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or another related field.
- Valid and unrestricted post-degree license or candidate permit in the State of Colorado required (e.g. LSW, SWC, LPCC, MFTC), with strong preference for independent licensure as either a LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or LP.
