What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scientist position at Signal BioScience?
Job : Scientist
Signal Bioscience is a Life Science Tools company in Ann Arbor, MI developing novel reagents and assays for molecular diagnostics and genomic research applications. We are seeking laboratory scientists with experience working with qPCR and dPCR (digital PCR) assays and instruments.
Company Description :
Signal Bioscience is developing novel oligo-mediated amplification chemistries and methods for PCR (polymerase chain reaction). This technology allows for the control and amplification of PCR signals, impacting several performance dimensions such as speed, signal intensity, and multiplexing, while maintaining the same specificity as TaqMan assays. The reagent designs can be used with existing and new assay designs, using existing primer pairs and instruments1. This innovative approach aims to dramatically improve PCR performance, increase the amount of information generated in a run, speed up assay design times, and lower the overall material input costs for PCR assays.
The company is located in Ann Arbor, MI.
The Position
This is an onsite position for a scientist who wants to work hands on - at the bench. The ideal candidate will be able to independently design experiments and analyze data from these experiments.
We have a related posting for a Senior Lab Technician who will support this Scientist position.
The position requires a working knowledge of PCR. Our assay designs require the ability to set up assays with many input chemistry variables, adjust instrument settings to achieve the desired assay conditions, and interpret the output data from these experiments. A bonus will be proficiency with bio-informatics tools to design and order complex oligos to be used in our assays.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology and biochemistry with experience in nucleic acid enzymology, quantitative PCR and isothermal amplification technologies. Next Generation Sequencing experience is a plus.
Key Responsibilities :
- Participate in development of a cutting edge, next generation amplification technology
- Design and execute experiments to test the performance and reproducibility of novel assays
- Analyze data and troubleshoot any issues that arise during development
- Stay up-to-date with current literature and industry trends in molecular biology and related fields
- Contribute to patent and scientific publications related to the technology
Qualifications :
We offer a competitive salary, health benefits, stock options, and the opportunity to be an early contributor to groundbreaking technological developments.
This is an early-stage company, with all the advantages and disadvantages working in it can bring. You will need to have the ability to work in an unstructured environment, that is under-resourced, often ambiguous, and always quickly changing. At the same time, you will be able to contribute to an emerging culture, create systems for yourself and others, and find yourself at the ground floor of of a quickly growing organization. If this sounds appealing, please feel free to reach out!
