The Early Language and Literacy Coach is responsible for providing professional development, coaching, and resources to educators and child care providers to enhance early language acquisition and literacy practices. The position focuses on supporting high-quality interactions, evidence-based strategies, and developmentally appropriate practices to improve literacy outcomes for young children.
Qualifications:
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in education, Early Childhood Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, or a related field.
- Three years of experience in this or a related field is preferred.
- Experience training and coaching adult learners.
- Must demonstrate a high level of initiative and the ability to work well independently.
- Must be a systems thinker who sees the broad picture and works well in a collaborative environment.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills.
- Physical examination and record of negative TB test results must be on file with Signal Centers.
- Dependable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and insurance are required.
- Willingness to travel statewide and work some nights and weekends, which may include overnight travel.
- Must be able to work from a remote home environment within the state of TN.
- All applicants are required to undergo a background check that ensures they are eligible to enter and work in child care centers in the state of Tennessee.

Under the direction of the Early Language and Literacy Network Coordinator, the Early Language and Literacy Coach will have the following responsibilities:
- Promote an inspiring and solution-focused team environment.
- Maintain professional working relationships with area coaches and support other CCR&R coaches as they encounter language & literacy concerns in the field.
- Research and stay current on quality early language and literacy learning and development practices.
- Consistently uphold network expectations and assist in developing and delivering new initiatives for early language and literacy learning and development.
- Acquire any needed certifications, including Learning Language and Loving It trainer certification and LENA Grow™ coaching certification.
- Support the development and implementation of the Early Language and Literacy Specialization. Promote enrollment and participation within the service area assigned.
- The ability to apply for and receive AIMHi Endorsement through AIMHi TN within the first year of employment.
- Provide training, technical assistance, and support to early childhood educators on early language and literacy development using various delivery methods to meet the needs of early childhood educators.
- Engage in practice-based coaching with early childhood educators.
- Provide training and resource materials that early childhood educators can share with families.
- Promote activities to support the use of books in early childhood classrooms.
- Support the implementation of the LENA Grow™ program across the state.
- Assist with the delivery of training and technical assistance through participation in training events as the State may request or require.
- Support developing, implementing, and promoting Early Language and Literacy Summits for early childhood educators.
- Collaborate with other CCDF partners to develop and inform language development-related training content.
- Provide training, coaching, and technical assistance at times most convenient for our child care agencies and partners, which will require work on weeknights or weekends.
- Provide in-person training, coaching, and technical assistance to adult learners in both large group, small group, and individual settings.
- Participate in CCR&R local staff and partner meetings and other assigned meetings called by DHS or partners.
- Attend all Train-the-Trainer events and Supplemental Trainings, which may include overnight travel.
- Serve as facilitator for Train-the-Trainer Institutes and Supplemental Trainings as requested.
- Author content for CCR&R newsletter/social media/website as requested.
- Achieve and maintain First Aid/CPR instructor certification provided by CCR&R.
- Achieve and maintain AIMHi ™ endorsement.
- Positively market the CCR&R Network to the community.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
