We are currently searching for an ambitious Pre-Construction Manager for Solar Energy Projects. We are looking for future leaders with a proven track record. These positions are in Chattanooga, TN or remote and will require periodic travel for pre-bid site visits, customer meetings and conferences. Experience with power plant engineering, procurement and construction required. Experience with utility-scale solar energy is a plus.
Reports to: Director of Preconstruction
Works closely with: Customers, Project Engineers, Business Development, Procurement, Consulting Engineers, Vendors
Activities/ Responsibilities/ Duties:
- Lead pre-construction team meetings for assigned projects
- Focus on construction feasibility and risk identification. Present opportunities and creative solutions to complex problems from Bid Phase through turnover at Construction Phase
- Coordinate deliverables to support competitive proposals in response to client tenders
- Represent Signal Energy to the industry in a professional capacity by attending customer meetings and industry events.
- Keep current with latest market developments and industry offerings to elevate Signal Energy competitiveness
- Participate in department and company initiatives
- Actively communicate and coordinate with Business Development, Engineering, Scheduling, Estimating, and Operations to determine needs and winning cost and schedule
- Review RFP documents to confirm scope, schedule, design criteria and proposal submittals meet client requests and advise regarding identified risks and areas to clarify and/or negotiate
- Manage RFP deliverables and deadlines to support Business Development efforts
- Assist Business Development in ensuring all RFP requirements are covered in our proposals or clarified.
- Coordinate Constructability Reviews, Risk Reviews, and Procurement Buy-Out and ensure that proposal risk profile is maintained during Owner contract negotiations
- Identify Owner contract deliverables and ensure each is timely met; manage LNTP work in accordance with terms, including billing and receipts
- Drive complete and timely execution of PSAs, POs and Subcontractor Agreements with Procurement Team
- Ensure the best plan is provided to the Operations team by promoting continual planning, conveying Owner’s goals, and driving commercial and technical decisions
- Leverage technology, safety measures, and information sharing to increase productivity and profitability
- Support and conduct formal handover of project ownership from Preconstruction to Operations
- Support Operations team by providing context to design decisions and vendor / subcontractor selections, and contract terms
- Participate in internal Project and Risk Reviews to identify lessons learned to incorporate into future proposals and contracts
- Coordinate with Business Development, Estimating and other stakeholders for change order review (from Award to FNTP)
- Track project level buyout metrics to provide feedback and process improvement on future projects
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
- Strong coordination, time management, active listening, verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking and reasoning skills
- Highly organized, with ability to prioritize and track multiple, concurrent, high impact activities
- Ability to cultivate strong relationships internally and externally
- Operate with positivity and enthusiasm, especially in high-stress situations
- Understanding of EPC contracts, including legal, commercial, and technical terms
- Strong knowledge of scheduling and risk management principles
- Proficient in budget and cash flow analyses
- Excellent mathematical skills, including application and use in problem solving
- Sensitivity to problems; ability to tell when something is wrong; able to revise and adapt as necessary
- Computer literacy and proficiency using MS Office (strong Excel skills a must); MS Project proficiency preferred
Education/ Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in, civil engineering, electrical engineering, architecture, construction management, business or related area.
