Signal Energy’s Senior Manager, Battery Storage is accountable for all project design, technical innovation, estimating activities and preconstruction project management as detailed further below. The Technical Director will drive company profitability and value by delivering creative, cost-competitive technical solutions, executable project budgets, and advanced project leadership.

Location/Travel: Remote work, travel optional for client meetings, project site visits, and industry events
Works closely with: Customers, Signal Executive Leadership, Marketing & Communications, Business Development, Engineering Planning & Estimating, Procurement, Operations, and Vendor and Trade Partners

Activities, Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Overarching
- Recruit and develop engineering, estimating and project management team members that embody Signal Energy’s Core Principles and champion Preferred Selection
- Develop, implement and continuously improve a robust set of best practices, standards and review processes for the Engineering and Estimating teams
- Champion innovation and creativity in design tools, processes and plant technology to make Signal Energy an industry leader in these aspects
- Actively engage Signal’s team of subject matter experts to identify and account for all technical aspects and site conditions while maintaining cost-competitiveness, constructability and risk avoidance
- Develop initial project scope and designs based on customer RFP’s
- Create draft layouts and designs; optimize for constructed cost based on Engineering, Estimating and Operations input.
- Review project schedules
- Provide input to project risk/opportunity log
- Direct BESS engineering activities to ensure customer expectations are exceeded and Signal Energy consistently delivers innovative, best in class technical solutions
- Drive internal and external collaboration and reviews to ensure all conceptual designs meet project requirements and optimize project cost, performance, constructability and risk
- Manage the pricing efforts for detailed and indicative BESS opportunities
- Review cost estimates to ensure scope coverage while looking for cost opportunities. Ensure accuracy and completeness of all estimates prior to submission
- Oversee all detailed engineering efforts to ensure all deliverables are submitted on time, comply with all customer and AHJ requirements, meet quality standards and align with budget assumptions
- Facilitate technical reviews of all selected materials to affirm compliance with all internal and external specifications
- Support Operations through resolution of RFIs, field changes and other design-related issues, including technical evaluations of any proposed changes to project design requirements, material specifications or means and methods
- Support contract negotiations for client and subcontractor scopes
- Effective leader focused on developing and empowering team but willing to get “in the trenches” when necessary to meet objectives
- Highly organized, with ability to prioritize and track multiple, concurrent, high impact activities
- Driven by desire to continuously improve process, tools and technology

- Proficient in all applicable engineering and estimating software including AutoCAD, PVSyst/SAM, Microsoft Office and industry leading estimating software
