The Director of Product reports to the VP of Product Development and collaborates closely with Product Line Managers (PLMs), Industrial Designers, Merchandising, and Consumer Insights teams to drive brand and product strategies. This role is responsible for leading product line planning, market positioning, and go-to-market strategies to align with business objectives, optimize product assortments, and meet evolving consumer needs.
The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of consumer behavior, market trends, and competitive landscapes within the outdoor, workwear, and lifestyle industries. They will leverage data analytics, consumer insights, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver innovative, high-performing products across multiple categories, including apparel accessories, bags/packs, automotive accessories, and pet products.
This role also partners with merchandising, sales, and marketing teams to ensure a seamless product pipeline and successful commercialization across direct-to-consumer (DTC), e-commerce, and retail channels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Product Leadership: Develop and execute product strategies that drive brand growth and market differentiation across all categories.
- Market & Consumer Insights: Lead research into consumer trends, buying behaviors, and competitive landscapes to inform product decisions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Sales, Operations, and Marketing teams to align product initiatives with business objectives.
- Innovation & Assortment Planning: Identify white-space opportunities and build seasonal, holiday, and long-term product roadmaps.
- Team Development & Leadership: Mentor and empower PLMs and product teams, fostering a culture of innovation, agility, and collaboration.
- Brand Management & Storytelling: Maintain and evolve Brand Guidelines to ensure consistency across product, marketing, and retail strategies.
- Licensing & Partnerships: Serve as the primary liaison and brand channel PLM’s for licensor approvals and product alignment with brand partners.
- Go-to-Market Execution: Drive merchandising, visual storytelling, and marketing collaboration for successful product launches.
- Timeline & Process Optimization: Lead product lifecycle management (PLM) processes, ensuring efficient workflows from concept to commercialization.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven track record in consumer product development, merchandising, and go-to-market strategy in the outdoor, work, or lifestyle industries.
- Strong leadership experience with at least 5 years in a senior product management or director-level role.
- Deep expertise in trend forecasting, retail strategy, and omnichannel product launches.
- Ability to analyze and leverage sales data, consumer insights, and industry trends to drive decision-making.
- Experience working with DTC, wholesale, and key retail partners (e.g., big-box, specialty, and independent retailers).
- Demonstrated success in building and leading cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments.
- Proficiency in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, Adobe Creative Suite, and data visualization tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate brand vision into compelling product narratives.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Industrial Design, or a related field (MBA preferred).
