The packaging engineer level II is the key member that brings knowledge to the SPG product team in offering fully-vetted packaging solutions that speak to consumers while protecting and offering efficiency on financial targets within the entire supply chain. They will collaborate with the Product Line Managers and the development team to deliver packaging and shipping methods across a suite of products (hard and soft goods). They own the optimization to deliver consumer goods from factory to retail. The Packaging Engineer plays a critical role with our manufacturing partners to optimize cost, quality, and enhancing processes.

Primary Responsibilities :

Product Packaging Commercialization

Create and manage packaging development process, costing, and manufacturing efficiencies across all categories.
Work closely with cross-functional teams; including product design, manufacturing, marketing, and supply chain, to align packaging solutions with business objectives.
Analyze and recommend ways to reduce packaging costs while maintaining quality and functionality.
Perform cost-benefit analyses for different materials and processes.
Manage all pack outs across all categories and channels.
Define process to better understand shipping costs to improve efficiencies.
Understand all factory packaging capabilities and guide direction and allocation for product optimization.
Identify and implement process improvements in packaging development and production.

Packaging Innovation and Development

Lead research and development of packaging solutions to best protect and display products to consumers in the respective channels.

Conduct market analysis on packaging trends specific to our product categories.

Continuously grow advanced packaging expertise and collaborate on innovations to implement on our product assortment across all categories and channels.

Develop and implement processes and guidelines for material testing specifications across all categories and materials.

Stay updated on new technologies and trends in packaging.

Sustainability and Quality Assurance

Implement and manage quality standards on all packaging assets

Guide Production and QC teams in resolving production issues.

Incorporate environmentally friendly practices and materials into packaging designs.

Ensure packaging complies with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company guidelines.

Conduct tests to evaluate the performance of packaging materials and designs under various conditions (e.g., shipping, storage, and handling).

Analyze test results to identify opportunities for improvement.

Strategic Sourcing

Sourcing and managing packaging suppliers

Strategically drive supplier matrix and material utilization to assist PD team in cost saving and improved quality initiatives.

Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to source materials and ensure they meet quality and sustainability standards.

Own and manage key supplier / vendor relationships.

Create and build a network of contacts within the industry.

Skills / Capabilities :

Working knowledge of packaging solutions for physical products across categories.

Able to self-manage.

Detail-oriented with project management skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Proven background in package engineering, management, and testing processes of packaging.

High degree of agility and adaptability.

Computer proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite

Proficiency in design software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).

Familiarity with testing standards (e.g., ISTA, ASTM).

Knowledge of packaging materials, processes, and machinery.

Seasonal travel overseas to manufacturers may be required.
