Job Description
The Senior Manager, Technical Documentation will oversee a team of technical writers responsible for creating comprehensive product manuals and technical documentation for EG4 equipment. This executive leader will act as a bridge between technical writers, engineering teams and PLM team ensuring all documentation aligns with company standards, supports product innovation, and enhances customer understanding. The role requires strong leadership, strategic oversight, and a deep understanding of technical communication and engineering collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technical writers to produce high-quality documentation.
• Establish goals, performance metrics, and standards for technical writing deliverables.
• Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging continuous improvement and professional growth.
Documentation Strategy & Standards
• Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for technical documentation that aligns with product development timelines and corporate objectives.
• Create and enforce documentation standards, templates, and best practices to ensure consistency and professionalism across all product manuals.
• Ensure all manuals are accessible, user-friendly, and meet regulatory and industry standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Act as a liaison between the documentation team and engineering teams to translate technical concepts into clear and concise manuals.
• Partner with engineers at various levels to gather information, clarify specifications, and ensure the accuracy of documentation.
• Collaborate with marketing, product management, and customer support teams to align documentation with broader company goals.
Project Management & Delivery
• Oversee the planning, prioritization, and execution of multiple documentation projects across diverse product lines.
• Manage project timelines and ensure deliverables meet deadlines without compromising quality.
• Implement tools and technologies to streamline workflows and improve productivity.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
• Conduct regular reviews of technical documentation to ensure accuracy, clarity, and usability.
• Solicit feedback from stakeholders and customers to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and best practices to enhance the documentation process.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in technical writing or documentation roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
Skills & Expertise
• Proven expertise in technical documentation, including developing product manuals for complex equipment.
• Strong understanding of engineering concepts and the ability to communicate technical information effectively to non-technical audiences.
• Exceptional leadership and team-building skills with experience managing cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency with documentation tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or similar software.
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on deadlines.
