About this Role
The Mechanical Engineer at SiLC Technologies will play a critical role in the design and analysis of laser packaging, enclosures, tooling, and fixtures. This role requires a deep understanding of robust opto-mechanical design principles, including precision mechanisms, design for manufacturing, thermal control of lasers, and other thermal management systems.
The person in this role will contribute to the full product lifecycle, including design, analysis, documentation, and testing of optical and laser-based systems, subsystems, and components. Collaborating closely with a multi-disciplinary design team, they will perform mechanical modeling, cable and fiber management, prototyping, calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), and system testing.
The ideal candidate will be skilled in compiling and reviewing technical data to conduct comprehensive thermal and mechanical analyses—leveraging hand calculations, FEA, and STOP techniques—to derive informed design decisions and implement them effectively within CAD and supporting documentation. They will also be responsible for developing and optimizing current mechanical models, conducting formal design reviews, supporting failure analyses, and contributing to proposal development.
This role requires strong independent working capabilities, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset, as well as commitment to continuous improvement.
Responsibilities :
Involved with the design, fabrication and modification of mechanical and / or electromechanical components, sub-systems and systems. May include Mechanical Analysis, Aerodynamics / Fluids, Thermal, Fluid Systems, Mechanical Packaging, or others. Evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products or services. Investigate solutions to product or process problems.
Design and develop fiber and cable management in module and system levels.
May use computer-aided engineering or other design / analysis software in the performance of assignments. Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction, develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable.
Develop prototypes to mitigate development risks and validate critical design features.
Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal teams, external stakeholders, and customers as required.
Effective communication with vendors to manage cost and timeline targets.
Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and personnel.
Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization.
The ideal candidate will have :
Laser packaging experience : soldering, 3D printing, adhesive bonding, hermeticity testing, outgassing testing, and fiber splicing.
Proficiency in CAD software package : SolidWorks.
Experience with FEA and CFD package : COMSOL.
Qualifications :
- B.Sc. in mechanical engineering or related technical field with minimum of 3 years of experience in Mechanical Design and Engineering, Electro / Optical Packaging, Thermal Design, Fiber and Cable Management.
