As the Head of R&D, you will lead Silent Returns’ research and development initiatives, driving the evolution of our FROG technologies and ensuring alignment with our mission and strategic objectives. This fractional role is ideal for a senior leader with deep technical expertise, a strong commitment to innovation, and the flexibility to dedicate part-time hours while making a significant impact. - Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a forward-looking technology roadmap for FROG platforms, ensuring continuous innovation.
- Core Technology Development: Oversee R&D for AI/ML, modular systems, edge computing, data fusion, and advanced robotics.
- Project Management: Lead a portfolio of R&D projects, ensuring alignment with business goals, budgets, and timelines.
- Mentorship: Foster a culture of creativity and technical excellence, mentoring and guiding a talented R&D team.
- Emerging Technology Integration: Evaluate and incorporate cutting-edge technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
- Grant and Partnership Support: Drive proposal efforts for programs like SBIR Phase I/II and pursue partnerships with academia, government, and industry collaborators.
- Risk Mitigation: Implement structured frameworks to identify and mitigate technical and operational risks.
- Representation: Serve as an advocate for Silent Returns at industry events and conferences, showcasing R&D achievements.
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master’s preferred) in robotics, AI/ML, engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience leading R&D initiatives in robotics, autonomous systems, or related industries.
- Expertise in AI/ML, edge computing, modular robotics, and sensor fusion.
- Prior service in the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is strongly preferred.
- U.S. Citizenship with a squeaky-clean background is required.
- Track record of transitioning research into deployable products or commercial solutions.
- Experience with grant funding processes (e.g., SBIR) and cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
