Job Description
SVB’s Wine Division is an industry leader in financing both wineries and grape growers in California, Oregon and Washington. The 35 people in the Division represent the largest group of finance professionals who are exclusively focused on the wine industry. Over the past 20 years, SVB has developed hundreds of relationships with premium wine companies and remains a well-respected advisor in the wine industry due to our deep focus on the industry and longstanding track record. SVB maintains its focus on the industry with offices in Napa country (St. Helena) and Sonoma County (Santa Rosa.).
Vice Presidents are best described as complete relationship managers. They are the Bank’s primary point of contact for the existing client base, ensuring high quality client service and client retention. The position entails managing an existing portfolio of clients with support from Associate bankers, VP peers, and reporting to the Managing Director. This role balances the need to grow client relationships and manage risk effectively. Primary responsibilities include deep financial analysis, underwriting complex commercial and real estate related credit, leading team portfolio management, managing deal flow from documentation/title to closing, fluency with regulatory compliance, and cross selling. Position is a key liaison to other Bank departments including operations, credit, compliance and legal. VP’s will also assist the Managing Directors with market presence, new client acquisition, training of junior team members and various projects.
The Vice President job is made up of two levels differentiated by experience level and effectiveness. You will generally have 5 years of related experience. Strong credit, financial and client service skills are paramount, along with some experience with negotiation and marketing skills. Promotional opportunity to Managing Director or other management positions.
Primary Responsibilities: (Example: Functions, deliverables, duties, and management responsibilities)
- Underwrites all forms of commercial and real estate credit
- Ensures client satisfaction across portfolio
- Maintain portfolio’s high credit management standards
- Recognizes and leads opportunity to cross sell
- Manages full spectrum of deal flow from analysis to closing
- Drafts term sheet proposals
- Training resource for team and division.
- Positively influences morale of team
- Engages in community activities
- Assist Managing Director in prospecting research and activities
Skills & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Course work in accounting & finance preferred. An MBA degree, wine industry and/or banking experience is value
- 4-5 years related experience in credit
